“Standards have dropped”
Reviewed April 8, 2013 via mobile

Having stayed in this hotel over the years and been very satisfied, we were very disappointed with our recent visit.
The high standards have dropped since they have been taken over by a small chain of hotels.
The room and bathroom were both clean and pleasant with a lovely view.
The lounge areas are comfortable and attractive. However, the ambience was spoilt by very rude bar staff!
The dining room lighting was very harsh and the food was poor. The meal had obviously been standing, and was cold and congealed!!
Overall, what used to be an excellent hotel has slipped to a very mediocre one-very disappointing!

Before going I had read some reviews which were not so favourable to the hotel. For example the buffet breakfast was not adequate to a four star hotel. Well, i have to say that it was rich enough for me, with croissants, cakes, juices, toasts, cheese, ham, jams and many many other things. As for the room, the one we had was very large, with a wide sitting areas and with a huge balcony. The bathroom was also very large, with both bathtub and shower. On this respect some reviewers complained about the bathroom and i agree that especially the tiles may have been a bit old-fashioned but they were ok and the room as a whole was super clean and cosy. The shuttle to la villa (where the cable car to piz la ila is) was very efficient and the driver a very friendly and helpful guy. Also the dinner was ok, i can agree that portions were not huge but i think they were enough and the quality was excellent. Last, staff was super friendly. For example, as we arrived very late the first night, they had arranged for a selection of cold food (ham, cheese...) to be brought to the room. Overall, i cannot but assign a very positive review to the hotel.

Reviewed January 10, 2012

Bought 3 days with booking.com for € 850 with breakfast and dinner, me and my girlfriend on Jan. 5/2012. Booked a "Superior" room wich should be the best one under the suite, but even though the room was very spacious, the decoration was really poor and plain and not in accordance of the rest of the hotel wich has beautiful common spaces, such as the restaurant, the bar (with an excellent live piano player) and the spa with a new pool. Breakfast was rich and dinner good. The hotel is a little far away form any town but has an efficient transportation available for free. Good hotel for families. The only real negative point was the room.
