“No non-sense seafood restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2012

OK, the place lacks a bit of atmosphere, but for me it's a genuine Italian restaurant that makes Italy so exceptional.

You want the menu card? No no, the waiter explains you what is available in the kitchen .. in Italian of course!

We took the (endless) antipasti di mare: four (!) gorgeous dishes (kilos of vongole!, superb langoustines, etc.). I took the grilled fish dish and found it absolutely fantastic. We took no dessert, because we simply had no space left anymore for something else ...

All this for € 70! (€ 1 for a bottle of water, € 4 for a half bottle of wine).

Excellent address!

“Good but..”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2012

After a week inland we were keen to eat fish and this is one of the few fish restaurants we encountered and is regarded as the best in Ascoli Piceno and was recommended by Fred Plotkin in his guide. The fish antipasti between two were very good consisting of a platter of mixed fish nicely presented - warmed prawns, anchovies, salmon, followed by some good gamberi alla griglia, followed by a dish of vongole, and finishing with a so so fish stew. The spaghetti alle vongole was good but uninspired, the pasta was nicely cooked but the vongole could have been better seasoned and the addition of a little butter/oil and parsley would have lifted the dish. The secondo was sogliola alla griglia which was very disappointing considering its cost (same as the antipasti). It was served already filleted and skinned and was small and not particularly remarkable and appeared to have been fried rather than grilled. The wine list was good enough and reasonably priced. The service was good. The room is a square open shape rather like eating in someone's parlour and lacked atmosphere. If you stick with the antipasti and don't mind the lack of atmosphere is worth a visit. Cost was reasonable at Euro 100 for 2 antipasti, 1 primo and 2 secondi plus wine and water. Went to Caffe Melleti for coffee and some atmosphere afterwards.

A small place with only 8 tables but the food is nearly perfect. I suggest to everyone who wants to live a good experiance of sea food.
