“The first cross to depict Jesus as a man”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

don't miss this we were informed by the travel office that this cross was the first to depict Jesus's body in a realistic way. Its very close to the Duomo so don't miss it worth the extra walking.

“A great find”
Reviewed September 20, 2013

We walked throughout Arezzo and stumbled upon this church - we were alone and were awed by the beauty and serenity of it. It is away from the Grande Piazza in a quiet corner and was a very pleasant find!

“Cimabue is calling your name”
Reviewed August 23, 2013

People often come to Arezzo just to see the Piero frescos, and miss the spectacular Crucifix by Cimabue in the church of San Domenico. Put a few coins in the box and have the cross illuminated (although be quick with the camera, they only give you about 60 seconds). Spend some time ambling about the rustic interior looking at frescos by an assortment of Tuscan artists.

“Cimabue's crucifixion is sublime”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

A little out of the way in a quiet piazza, this church has a tranquil atmosphere and is dominated by Cimabue's amazing crucifixion of Christ. Well worth the walk to get there

“A lovely simple church”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

Thia is by far my favorite church in Arezzo. Among the splendid and larger churches in the city I find this to be a true gem. Lovely in its simplicity. Founded in 1275 and finished in the the late 1300s in a local form of Gothic architecture. It holds many fine paintings and a signiificant crucifix by Cimabue. The church has been restored many times.

I find it a quiet, lovely and peaceful place to visit. It is on the Piazza di San Domenica heading downhill from the Cathedral on via di Sassoverde.

Of note, if you approach Arezzo by car and circle around to the back of the city on via Pietri there is a large parking lot which has free parking, it fills up early, as well as pay parking. From there you can take escaltors up to the Cathedral.
