Le Rotte Ghiotte is the new kid on the block, not quite a year old. Smiling, burly Chef Shady has garnered a faithful clientele already. This was our second visit, the first was three months ago (also reviewed on Tripadvisor). He recognized us and remembered where we had sat the previous time.

The menu features Mediterranean specialties: Turkish, Greek, Sardinian, Ligurian, Spanish to name a few, along with some traditional Italian dishes. The meal began with a wonderful amuse bouche: cold couscous salad with mint and lemon, which certainly stimulated our appetites. Our first course was corzetti liguri al pesto bianco, hand cut flat rounds of pasta with a cream and cheese sauce and toasted pignoli, surprisingly light and delicious. The better of our two secondi was the ablama, a melon zucchini stuffed with a ground lamb and pignoli mixture. When I cut into the zucchini, the steam released was redolent of lamb. The lamb juices went perfectly with the vegetable “casing.” Our other secondo, the Shish, three small skewers of ground lamb, chicken, and pork was somewhat dry, though the lamb, which could be thought of as a version of the Balkan cevapcic, was deliciously crusty. One of our secondi on our previous visit had also been a little dry.

On the whole, though, we were more than full and satisfied with the meal. Before we left, chef Shady insisted we try some homemade vanilla ice cream. A delicious ending! The wine list was adequate and reasonably priced. We will be back, but I hope Chef Shady has someone watching some of the main courses to keep them a tad moister.
