it´s a small hotel on the 4th floor of a very central street only 10 min from the train station. The room was very big, clean, big flatscreen TV and even a view towards city and mountains.... and it was quiet, as we had requested. The reception people were both very friendly like the staff at the well equipped breakfast table. We were satisfied ! The price is a bit pricy for a small town like Arezzo but after having stayed in two B&B places later that trip I gladly pay a few EUR more to stay in the comfort of a hotel.

Room Tip: A room NOT facing the street is better for noise sensitive people

The Hotel Portici is like a pearl hidden in an oyster. You have to look inside to find the value.

Located about 40 feet from the entry to the happening downtown pedestrian-only part of Arezzo, the hotel provides easy access to great restaurants, shops, gelato, and (the Thursday night we were there) live music in the piazza.

The rooms, dining area, bar, and lobby were beautifully furnished with antiques and have a luxurious old world feel.

The people who run the hotel are lovely people who clearly care about their guests and provide great service.

The only reason this review isn't higher on location is that the hotel is on the 4th floor of a building that has seen better days. If you can get past that downside, you will be happy with this hotel.

Stayed for one night on 5 September 2012 - concerned to find a decent, central hotel with a lift and nearby parking, as my husband had recently had a knee operation and couldn't walk that far. I Portici delivered on all accounts. The owners could not have been kinder in accommodating our needs from the moment we arrived. We were given a comfortable, quiet room, overlooking the rooftops to the bell towers of the old town, and breakfast the next morning was inviting too. From a British perspective, I Portici seemed to us more like an upmarket B&B rather than a hotel, but this is not meant as a criticism: it was rather homely! Would we stay again? Yes, absolutely.

Stayed on 14/8/12. A good central location. Offered a double room when we ordered a twin. However, the mistake was rectified immediately. Friendly, helpful staff; decent (continental) breakfast; reasonable price. The hotel is on the 4th floor, but a lift is available I Portici is well appointed for the main sites: Basilica di San Francesco [up-close viewing of the Piero Della Francesca frescoes from 1pm and bookable in advance by phone, online or in the shop attached to church - 8 euros. Although admission to the basilica is free, access to the frescoes is roped off and they are difficult to make out], Piave di Santa Maria; the Duomo; and the Museum Statale d'Arte Medievale e Moderna [admission free and not 4 euros as stated in Rough Guide to Italy 2011]. Opposite the hotel there are two onstreet spaces for free disabled parking. Arezzo's historic centre is well signposted and is a rewarding experience.

I dont know why people give this hotel a bad review. The location is good, and the room I had was nice. The place is small, but it is what it is. It is right next to the old town, so access is great, and actually I found the service was fine - the staff were helpful and didnt charge me for my use of the minibar in my room because I was too late to have breakfast. The entrance was a bit confusing as it is in a building that is otherwise full of doctors and lawyers offices and the lift is slow, but for the price I think it was very good value for money.

This hotel claims 4 stars but we reckoned it must refer to the floor it's on. I agree with the Italian reviewer who comments on the depressing entrance and claustrophobic, and very very slow lift. The swags artfully arranged as you come out of the lift don't disguise that the public areas are in need of work.
The public areas of the hotel are very small indeed. Cramped.
The staff are friendly.
The room is pretty and period. But it's all a bit amateur. And the rooms are noisy with no sound proofing. This is quite simply a basic pensione which has been tarted up.
I was takento the room, told the heating was broken and then shown the fan heater I could use and advised to keep the bathroom door open to spread the heat from it into the room! I was shown the blankets - which were certainly needed in an unheated room. A fan heater is frankly dangerous and I wasn't given istructions on how to use it!!!
The bathroom is nice. Bed was OK.
Breakfast was a joke. A lot of cake and not much else. Due to dietary problems I went for the cornflakes, But... no bowls, spoons or milk on the buffet!! The staff tried to find a bowl and spoon but couldn't! I was told to make do with a cup and teaspoon! I'm not joking.
No minibar either, you had to go and get bottles of water from the porter .Reminded me of my early years of staying in Pensioni in the 1980s!!!!
This hotel needs attention. It is pretentious and there's nothing worse than that really.

Room Tip: Away from public areas

We found the address and it was a door not unlike the other doors around. We walked down a darke hall way and some lights acctivated. At the end of the hall was a two person elevator that took us to the fourth floor. the door opened on to a small entrance off of which was a plain door. It didn't open so we knocked and a gentlman opened up. Inside was the hotel consisting of a lounge, small bar and about two dozen rooms. The rooms were vintage but in good shape. The breakfast was traditional meats, pasteries and cereal with yogurts. Cappucinos were excellent. Great bargin at 95Euros. Right on the edge of the old city. Everything within walking distance.

Room Tip: Don't be discouraged with the entrance. We had a back room and it was quiet. We were mid week an...
