“Wonderful experience in a beautiful setting”
Reviewed April 30, 2012 via mobile

We had a wonderful experience. The staff was kind and thoughtful, and genuinely cared about our experience in Alba. They assisted us with reservayions, transportation and went above and beyond to help us. The breakfast was delicious, and the room was beautiful. We were sad to leave!

We were pleasantly surprised when we walked into this hotel which was originally an important mansion. We were greeted by Anna who was also the same lovely lady who helped with my hotel booking and restaurant arrangements, When we were shown to our room, Anna explained that each room has a themed decoration and ours was the "Fan". Basically, you can walk to everywhere from the hotel.

Since we were caught in the middle of a huge snow storm, the staff helped us with rearranging bookings. Instead of having to drive through the snow storm to neighboring county, they recommended us Trattoria Teatro and Trattoria Del'Arco which were delicious and reasonable. They were also troopers as the whole city was paralyzed by snow on the second day and they still showed up for work and even helped us with getting our car out of the garage!

The only complain is the small shower stall - I am petite but I was unable to turn around in the tiny cubicle. I managed to splash water everywhere!

Alba is a sleeper. It is the most perfect small city you never heard about in the Piedmont region of Northern Italy. There is a great selection of little wine bars and local rustic restaurants alongside a selection of indulgent Michelin-starred destinations from which to choose every night of the week. Top tier clothing stores line the main streets and market vendors gather twice weekly in two different locations. Despite being a major food wine enthusiast's destination, this is a city of well-preserved architecture, lifestyle and culture which has not yet been entirely diluted by tourism like some areas of Tuscany.

In and around this city there are several hotel options at a wide range of prices. Palazzo Finati is among the highest priced options.
Our stay at the Palazzo was remarkably comfortable and being so perfectly located meant we were able to keep out of the car and take many morning and nightly strolls among the historic town finding coffee, lunch and dinner on our own and at our own pace.
The staff at the hotel, all the most gracious women you may ever meet, are extremely helpful in providing anything you may need. The hotel and rooms are well appointed and feel secure with good windows to keep out whatever little bit of noise there may be. Heated floors and towel warmer in the bathroom are a welcome detail, though the shower is oddly configured and uncomfortable, even for my petite wife. The bathroom in our Junior Suite also lacks privacy from the adjacent bedroom with its odd plate glass ceiling.
The small parking lot is an extra charge but turned out to be very convenient for us. Parking is at a premium in Alba and we did use the car frequently to visit vineyards and the towns of Barolo, Barbaresco, Novello, Asti, etc., which are all an easy 10-30 minutes from each other.
Included hotel breakfasts are well prepared and served with perfectly cooked eggs by request. The room was made up and arranged very well each day by a conscientious chambermaid.

I highly recommend Palazzo Finati even at its higher price than comparable hotels if for no other reason than its perfect location and overall cleanliness and comfort.

If you are looking to stay in Alba proper this is an excellent choice. Walk out your door to fine shops, excellent restaurants, or just to enjoy the cobblestone streets and churches of this pretty medieval town. Palazzo Finati is a small gem of a hotel with beautiful and tastefully decorated rooms. The staff of Anna,Paola,Sabrina and Sara are wonderful. They are happy to help arrange any activities such as wine tours, truffle hunts, restaurant reservations ect. They provided us with several excellent suggestions. For us, Alba was our base for 6 days. After spending the weekend in Alba we took day trips out to the surrounding towns such as Serralunga,La Morra, Barola. These are beautiful drives through the rolling hills covered with grape vines. Alba can be tricky navigating in and out of, and driving to Palazzo Finati takes some skill, so prepare yourself well with clear and precise directions. But its worth the work. Palazzo Finati is an excellent choice!

I highly recommend this hotel! Staff was top notch and very very helpful and take pride in their hospitality. Well versed in the region and always helpful. Rooms are well appointed and breakfast was delicious with fresh eggs! They also provide parking for a slight fee which is a bonus. A special place for sure.

This was our second visit to the same hotel so it is to be expected that we found it agreeable. We had the same room as before, and this time visited Alba with friends who stayed here with us to explore the Piedmontese wine area and enjoy the annual truffle fair, held every October.
The small main door opens into an elegant lobby that is serviced from morning to 9pm. After that you let yourself in by a side door. The charming receptionist smiled as she explained that no-one would know who you came home with. On this visit we did not avail.
The room TV was minute, but never actually turned on to see what was available. Our room opened out onto an expansive shaded terrace with comfortable furniture. All the other rooms had smaller terraces. The bathroom was well equipped with a bidet and walk-in shower. Neither our room nor our friends room had tubs. Breakfast is served in a brick arched basement restaurant that serves no other meals. Breakfast service is energetic with two staff to look after the ten to fourteen guests present and cooked extras are always available, There is free WIFi and coverage is good throughout the building. The Hotel has limited parking that can be reserved with the booking. Without hotel parking life would be difficult for drivers because the hotel is very central, within minutes of the main street and the Cathedral Square, all of which is semi-pedestrianised..

Would agree with all the earlier good reviews on this site. Attractive hotel, very friendly and helpful staff, and a wide choice of food for breakfast. Definitely recommended.
