“Central in Alba”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2012

Most hotels in Alba are situated away from central town, but from Hotel Savona, You can reach restaurants, cafés, sights and shops easily by foot. The building is not new, but renewed and the rooms are spacious and clean. You get over aveage rooms for undev average cost. The service at the desk is perfect and in addition very fiendly. We return here every year and are regognized by the staff, even in the breakfast room. The breakfast is better than most in Italy bur not of northern european standard. An extra bonus is the Café Savona where you can have small dishes and wines by the glass. There is also a free parking.

Convenient location to the central part of town; if there is another hotel as convenient, we aren't aware of it. We were visiting during the Truffle Festival; a great deal of fun, as well as educational.
NEUTRAL: The hotel is dated, reminiscent of a mix between the 1950's and bad decor of the mid - 70's. Breakfasts are so/so; our suspicion is that they keep putting out the same baked goods for days in a row until gone rather than put out fresh items each day. The yogurts, cheeses and meats appeared to be fresh daily, however. Cappuccinos, Espressos, Latte’s are a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10 and are included in the Continental Breakfast that comes with the price of the room.
GOOD: Staff is very helpful and kind. There is on-site parking, but they fill-up early and you might have to park in the public garage a block away (remember, the garage is closed on Sunday, so if you take your car out of the garage, you will not be able to park in the garage again until Monday ~yikes~). Hotel & rooms are clean, windows open and the metal shutters can be pulled-down at night to let air in while feeling secure. Rooms are heated with radiant heat starting in November (can’t fully turn-off the heat), and there is air-conditioning for the hot months (which is VERY important).
BAD: Bathrooms are cramped; toilets are poorly placed much too close to the shower. Beds are Hard-as-a-ROCK, so if you like a really hard bed, this is the hotel for you! We woke each morning sore all-over. The pillows are also rock-hard; they feel as though they are slabs of cement, in fact. One of our friends purchased a polyester-fill pillow from the weekend market in self-defense. We requested "fluffy" pillows after the first night and received 1 inch thick "softer” pillow topper to place on the slabs; helped a little (very little).

Room Tip: Street rooms are noisier at night with foot traffic; inside rooms are quieter but cramped. Recommend...

The infamous white truffle brought us to Alba and we decided to select this hotel based on Trip Advisor reviews. The Hotel appears to of been a Three Star according to the Italian Hoteliers guidelines (I still don't know what their criteria is!), and now it's boasting a four star rating. I would say it's leaning towards four. The room are large in size and seem to have a separate work area and a small fridge. Check-in was quick and smooth. I booked the room through their website and all went well. The heating element in the room seemed to work well in the cold nights. Parking is secured on the property. The front desk told us there was a charge for parking but would comp us our three night parking. Parking is tight but works well. Wi-fi was also free with two free connection available to us. the speed seemed decent and worked well. The breakfast is a typical 3-star style, basically it's cold cuts, coffee, bread, cheese, and yogurt. We arrived on a Sunday there were farmers markets all over the place, including one in front of the hotel. The lobby is well proportioned. The elevator to access the rooms are quite small in size. I really can't say if the hotel is family friendly since I didn't see any kids in the hotel. Our room did not have a connecting room door. But I would say that our room easily could sleep four. We had a REAL king size bed and not your typical Italian con-joined twin beds. The bathroom was large enough to fit two people. Complimentary shampoo and soap were available. The shower/tub was acceptable with two shower heads, the shower door was flimsy but did the job. A built-in hair dryer was also available. My only real issue with the Hotel was that it took them about 6 hours to get back our passports. I asked for them several times and was told they weren't done. On the last visit to the front desk, I noticed they were just sitting on the counter as were other guests' passports, to the point where I could walk up and take them or anyone else! There are several restaurants, Pharmacies and a grocery store nearby for all needs. There is a small town square one minute from the hotel with a merry-go-round. I know the following has nothing to do with the hotel but; as for the white truffle festival, it is 5 minutes walking from the hotel as is everything in the area. Keep in mind that 70% of the town was closed on Monday, so plan accordingly.

Room Tip: Request a Jr. suite for added Space. Back facing room of the building had a view of the mountains.

Visited Hotel Savona in October for tour of wine area and truffle festival in Alba. The hotel is centrally located and near great restaurants, coffee shops and bars. Rooms are clean, beds are a little hard but overall a good value. The breakfast (included) is good but not as extensive as others I've seen/experienced. Good value for a central location and clean room.

We arrived early afternoon on Saturday and needed to get to Church, the people at the hotel had the Mass time and provided me with a map to the Duomo. My computer died while I was there and one of the fellows at the front desk was very helpful trying to get my computer back working, unfortunately it was not possible but there was a PC available to guests with free internet which was very helpful.

The breakfast was very good and the ladies did an excellant job ensuring everyone had their morning coffee in any number of styles.

The room was very clean and the bathroom very spacious. Would recommend this hotel to fellow travellers.

Stayed one night in this beautiful town with my family. We got a large family room (4 beds) of pretty good standard for around €130 included a really good breakfast buffet.
