“Gorgeous grounds, but average service”
Reviewed September 15, 2012

I stayed at this hotel on the night of 8 September with Voyages Jules Verne's tour. As I was part of a tour-group and as I stayed only one night, please bear in mind that I may not have had a typical experience of the hotel. First up, the cons; then, the pros.

The cons:

1. I was a single-supplement traveller but even so it was a little disappointing to be put in a room on the ground floor, just along from the reception (number 18). However, in all fairness this wasn't quite as bad as I feared because the slope of the land means that I still had a reasonable view from my window over the gardens. The decor was functional but fairly uninspiring.

2. As a group, we all had to eat at the same time and sit on designated communal tables in the restaurant. We were told to arrive at the restaurant at 7:30pm and when we arrived one or two minutes beforehand (I do not exaggerate), we were given very short shift and driven out again by the staff because we were too early. A short course in customer service would go a long way.

3. The location probably isn't the greatest. It wasn't too much of an issue for us because we were travelling by bus, but it's on a fairly major road and so I imagine it might pose issues for people travelling independently.

The pros:

1. The pool is wonderful and is full right to the brim. Our group were quite enthusiastic swimmers and this was the best pool I sampled during the holiday. Do bear in mind that you cannot bring down towels from your room - so make sure you take a lightweight one with you, to save having to buy one on site - and you need to wear swimming caps - so take one of those with you as well to save buying it there.

2. The gardens are very well laid-out, with a charming mini Greek theatre beside the terrace of the restaurant. I'm not quite sure what purpose it's meant to serve, but it's a bit of a sun-trap and a lovely place to sit to read or write.

3. To counter my comments about customer service, I should note that the staff very kindly provided a candlelit pudding for one of our group members when they found out it was his birthday.

Room Tip: Don't go on the ground floor - do try to get a room higher up, as you'll have more of a view...

Older hotel with superb gardens and swimming pool.
Stayed one night only.
Being on the first floor, we had a large patio area overlooking an area of trees.
Good sized room with a rather firm KS bed. Older wooden furniture with enough space for laptop.
Decor a little faded. Wooden floor, no carpet.
Sky TV on an ancient CRT TV. A little hard to set up but there are many channels. A few in English.
Airconditioning worked but only just. I think it is turned off at night.
WiFi is available in rooms but it is not free. Did not use on this occasion.
Lighting OK. Good for reading. No tea/coffee making facilities.
Bathroom looks very plush with marble everywhere, but has a few design problems.
There are no clothes hooks and no towel rails for the large towels.
The shower and screen was installed at the wrong end of the bath so water splashes over the floor.
The bath base is slippery and there is no safety grab rail.
We had both breakfast and dinner here. Both very good.

Room Tip: If you like the idea of your own patio, ask for level 1.

We were forced to stay here because our hotel had a major electical problem. Thankfully we only stayed 2 nights. Staff was not very helpful and the room - well it was at least cool. Very noisy if stays on the street side.

I do not think this hotel corresponds to a 4-star-hotel, it is much worse!!!

Hotel located quite far from city center.

Our room was not ready when we arrived at 2:00 p.m. and we had to wait 1 hour for it. After that, our bathroom was DIRTY and we had to ask the staff to clean it!!

We were waken up by the chambermaids at 8:30 a.m. because they were shouting at the corridor.

The room sould be refurbished. It is old fashioned and old. The air-condition system is very noisy, and it is automatically stopped during the nights.

People at recepcion do not speak English well, and it was difficult to have any information from them.

Breakfast can be improved. Very Limited.

This hotel has SPA, but it was closed when we stayed (a weekend during August!)

The only thing we liked was the swimming pool, but it closes at 7:00 p.m. You cannot use it without a cap. They sell you caps at the swimming pool and rent towels to use them in the swimming pool.

Overall a good 4 star hotel, though the room we got on the first floor was noisy (close to the street),narrow and with a tiny tiny bathroom (if you get a better room, you'll enjoy much more the stay). The pool is great, clean and big. You need a car or taxi to reach the citycentre.

Fortunately we stayed there only one night. From the front desk attitude to the evening meal at their restaurant, this place was just terrible. Very difficult to park if you have a car, noisy if your room is in the front, the restaurant is pitiful and expensive. Lots of show but tasteless food, every dish comes with the same chopped vegetable garnish... Very poor breakfast also, you cannot get a decent espresso or cappuccino, just a Nescafe from a machine. All together sad. Will never go back.

Room Tip: Ask for one in the back

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights whilst travelling with Riviera travel. I would rate it as 3 star definitely not 4. I stayed in a twin room on the 3rd floor which looked out onto an the back of the hotel which had an unkept garden which had seen better days. The bedroom was small with an ensuite with bath/bidet which was very cramped. One night (whilst my daughter was taking a shower) the water for the toilet, bath, shower for the whole of the 3rd and 4th floor rooms just stopped working. I went down to recp to report it and the matter of fact reply i got was, we are dealing with it. They failed to ring up and advise me when it came on approx an hour later. Also, the safe in the room was faulty, i would recommend testing it first as my passport and money got jammed in it. It was finally opened by the following evening due to staff shortages on reception. I did have some money on me so luckily enough could wait on this occasion. I would recommend testing the safe first with no money or valuables in it. Since being back i was suprised to see other reviews saying the same had happened to them. The breakfasts and dinners were nice and the hotel pool and front gardens lovely. Although the beds were hard i did sleep well and it was very quiet. The hotel is situated in the middle of nowwhere right next to a road - there were no local shops of any kind, and nowhere to go for a nice evening stroll. I would have been very disappointed if i booked this hotel for a week, but as a stop over for the local tourist sites (Valley of the Temples/Agrigento) it served its purpose.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the pool and garden area
