The pluses are significant
Glorious quiet garden with orange and pomegranate trees and this on the second floor!
The suite is a bit over the top - high ceiling -inlaid parquet wooden floors - huge mirror and glorious bathroon with marble floor and inlaid mosaics.
Sitting room a mixed bag of some lovely hand painted furniture - beautiful old rugs - charming marionettes with stage in an alcove.

The down side is that Gabriella is rather haphazard as a host.
Breakfast was indifferent. ( had to ask for juice the 2nd morning) and no bread on the 2nd day.
Had to wait for her to arrive to get in - remember it is just a B&B - and I think just 3 rooms so she isn' there all the time.

But still there are many charms of this quirky and very well located spot.
It is on the 2nd floor and no elevator and the stairs are a bit of a climb if anyone in your group has trouble with stairs - it would not work.

On the whole - I am glad that we stayed here - it was memorable for many reasons.

Seemed like the villa has already lost its beauty and I believe the owner plans to remodel over a period of time. One should adjust the expectations that since Goethe stayed here, it should be grand. The best thing about it was the very central location, next to a good restaurant and along the main street.
The room was very different from what I saw on the website. it was smaller and with a very tiny bathroom that could have been the result of this being an extension. Seems like the room upstairs were bigger. I felt a bit unconfortable because there was only a folding door (that didn't close properly) between the room and the bathroom.
First I was looking forward to the breakfast in the garden but it was a dissapointment. There were cats living there so the sofa was full of their hair and whole garden smelled bad after the rains. The breakfast was very poor, only a few piece of bread, jam and coffee, the owner didn't put even tablecloth for us.
Compare to other hotels in Sicily, the price was a little high. The friendliness of the owners and the cleaning person was helpful in making me feel better about my choice.

On our round-trip by car in Sicily to see the ancient Greek and Roman sites, we had the fortune to stay one night in the B&B "Villa Goethe" in Agrigento. It is situated just off the main shopping street of the town and It is located in the 17th. century residence of Baron Celauro. Among his famous guests was Goethe.
Now we can all have the chance to stay in the fine, old building in the middle of the historic centre of Agrigento. We were two couples travelling together and we had spacious bedrooms with TV and en suite bathrooms. There was also a common sitting room charmingly fitted with furniture from the family. In the middle of the town centre we had access to a beautiful, peaceful garden with flowers and fruit trees. For us the highlight of the stay was the breakfast! It was served in the large family kitchen of the owners, Gabriella and Nicolo, This gave us the chance to get a real glimpse into the family life in Sicily as they were so open and welcoming to us. If we had stayed one more night, I am sure we would have been invited to join the 1st birthday celebration of their son the following day. Gabriella was going to use the whole day to cook 15 different recipes for 50 people, and we got a very colourful description of the preparation of some of them. But as we had to leave, we were instead presented with a gift of
samples of their own produced olive oil from a farm 50 km outside Agrigento. In one bottle the oil had a hint of lemon and in the other a hint of orange. The fruit had been pressed together with the olives.
We had an excellent stay in Villa Goethe and hope to have the chance to return again soon. It should also been mentioned that cosy, good restaurants were easy to find in the neighbourhood, in fact one of them was right on the doorstep of the villa.
