It was a rainy cool October day, so we took our 3 young children to the aquarium for something to do. We were very pleasantly surprised. We were not expecting much ( which probably helped) BUT there were so many fish to see, all different types and sorts AND things like giant spider crabs, caiman crocodiles, huge wels.....(what is a wel?) well you'd have to go and see to believe!...

If it's sunny it is not the place to go, but as previous people have written, it really was surprisingly enjoyable.. I would recommend.

(There is no food there, so you have to go back to Amboise for lunch.)

Abit overpriced, but good entertainment for a wet day in the loire valley. Probably only spent about an hour there with our toddler. Very popular attraction, but better things to do and see if fine weather. Shame it didn't have a cafe. Fish seemed well cared for.

We (my wife and our 4 month old baby boy) went to this attraction on the 14th of September 12. I read numerous reviews which were very mixed and I can now report why.
Bizarrely we enjoyed the attraction even though our first impressions as we parked in the huge car park were that this place looked very run down. On arrival you are met by a stark looking entrance with a pool of fish outside which appears never to have been cleaned in its life and yes there were fish actually living in it. There is a restaurant but this was closed and does not appear to have been open in recent years.
The only member of staff we saw at the aquarium was the lady taking payment. If you are thirsty or hungry there is a very sorry looking vending machine in reception selling soft drinks and sweets only.
The toilets (both male and female were minging) the entrance fee was €14 pp which was a bit steep and not really worth it.
So apart from the fact that it was in desperate need of refurbishment, there were no staff to be seen, nowhere to eat or drink and plonked in the middle of nowhere (although we had a drive on to Tours which is about a 30 min drive) and it was expensive we enjoyed it and so did the little boy.
The variety of sea life on show is amazing, we saw some really weird fish swimming in huge tanks and some really huge fish swimming in tanks including a walkway/tunnel where the sharks and fish 'swim' overhead was very cool. You can put your hands in to an open tank full of Koi Carp who all swim over to suck your hands or fingers when you dare to 'dunk' them in the water.......
We spent roughly 2 hours in the attraction which appeared to be the norm.
So do we recommend this attraction, probably yes if you have young children and don't mind spending the money - otherwise no, instead treat the family on a lovely Plat du Jour somewhere nice - like Tours in the Medieval Quarter.
