This hotel has a bit of a 1970s look and feel to it, we had a twin room for 125 a night with a bit of a view of the tall ships in the next door harbour. The hotel has a fantastic location and the harbour is very interesting to see.
The breakfast was not too bad but could do with more choice at the fruit and yoghurt counter.
A lovely place to sit outside and have a beer from the busy but friendly bar

We stayed in St Austell from 29 August until 4 September.

We looked at the places available to eat in nearby Charlestown and chose the bar in the Pier House because it looked clean and comfortable and we liked the menu. The bar was very busy as were the bistro and restaurant but the staff were pleasant and worked hard to look after their customers.

We ate in the bar on 4 evenings and in the restaurant on the other 2. The menus were varied, the food was very well cooked and the portions were large enough to satisfy the hungriest customer. There was a good choice of wine and I thought that Chilean white and red house wines were very good and fairly priced.

Thank you Pier House Hotel for providing us with a relaxing place to eat and helping to make our holiday enjoyable.

We stayed here for a mini-honeymoon. It's in an excellent location overlooking the historic harbour and sea. We stayed in room 8 which has a nice view of the harbour. The only downside was knowing that some rooms had a view of the sea, which I think would have been nicer.

We had a very nice dinner in the A La Carte restaurant on our first night. The food was excellent. We ate in the bar for 2 of the other nights. The food in there was your standard pub food. The local restaurants, the one in this hotel and the nearby Wreckers bistro (also excellent), were both very busy, so it's worth booking a table.

We don't have a car, so we had to rely on public transport and taxis which worked well. There's a bus stop just up the road with reliable buses running between Fowey and Mevagissey. It's also just 30 minutes walk from St Austell train station. The hotel receptionist was very helpful in ordering taxis for us.

We would definitely stay here again

Room Tip: Room 8 has a good view of the harbour. Some noise could be heard from the bar downstairs, but it stops quite early so wasn't a problem.

We had a great room with lovely views. Very clean and tidy. We had a first floor superior room with ensuite and views of the harbour and the tall ships. The restaurant and bar were both delightful and the staff incredibly friendly. This was a very good pick!!!
Eden Project was amazing and we popped across to Trevose Golf Club on the Atlantic coast for a game - only about 20 miles from Charlestown.

Room Tip: Superior with ensuite, first floor.

The situation is great on Carlyon Bay overlooking the historic harbour, Accommodation was fair as room was very small, The bathroom was well appointed as was the room. The breakfast was good but for us while the service was efficient it left you feeling staff were doing you a favour. For the price I would have expected better (there were some exceptions).
I booked three months in advance, requesting a sea view room(it was subject to availability). There were none available. we got room 5 over the kitchen - it was noisy with cutlery being packed at 2am etc and there was no view at all. Parking is up the hill which in wet weather could be an issue.
