Description: The Pub has moved with times and although over 150 years old boasts eight four star gold rated rooms, a public bar, popular with the locals that shows all live sport and has great bands every fortnight. Our lounge bar is fantastic for relaxing in with large leather sofas and armchairs with a touch of historic Charlestown. The restaurant is modern, open plan and serves locally sourced food. And if the weather's good our patio and garden is the ideal place to spend a few hours or more!

The four of us walked down for an early evening couple of drinks and meal. St Austell real ale selection was a treat and very tasty. My local mussels and frites were perfect and followed by some wonderful local ice cream. Enjoyed the experience and will probably be back for more.
The added bonus was a Wednesday Seniors 10% discount.

We visited for lunch and the food was nice but the atmosphere was average. It's a pretty big pub with a large restaurant room which is probably why it didn't feel like it had much atmosphere. We would visit again if we were in the area for lunch but not for a special dinner or anything.

Brought my 10 year old here on Friday 13th. I had burger & chips, my husband & son had fish & chips. We asked if the waitress could clear our table before we ate, it was piled with dirty glasses, bottles and a jug. She took 3 glasses. We cleared away the rest ourselves eventually. The burger was fine/quite nice. The chips were lukewarm. The atmosphere was reminiscent of a service station, no charm at all.

Ate there one lunchtime. Good pint of local ale, great choice of locally produced food. Enjoyed the soup especially. Also had a pint there on a coastal walk, in their nice garden.

Generally our experience was, this time, quite good. We've eaten often here in the past and decided to try it again. There are good points and some less good. The good points, the chips were much better than they used to be as I'm sure they used to be frozen. If not, they certainly tasted like they were being incredibly dry. On the plus side, the portion of scampi has now increased in size and tasted good. Now you get a good balanced meal as opposed to a small portion of scampi and masses of chips. On the downside, the mussels are now "St Austell Bay" ones and I suspect they've changed their supplier as they used to be "Fowey Mussels", and they're not so good nor so juicy. It's a shame, but fine, I just won't order them again. The prices are just a tad on the high side for the area.
