Our family was cycling the Petit Train du Nord bicycle trail, and Lac Saguay was the stopover on our first day out, about 20km (18mi) from our start point of Mont Laurier. While it's certainly possible to ride further in a day, we were unsure both of the trail conditions and our own abilities so planned to ease into an overall 200+km (125mile or so) ride.
The approach to the motel is well indicated by a road sign on the trail, and is only about a km off the trail though across a busy road. It's situated far enough off the road to feel remote, and right on a quiet lake so you really feel "away from it all".
The room was spotlessly clean, and well appointed. Ours had two double beds, a small dinette suite that could seat four, a large counter, with fridge, microwave, and kettle. Complimentary water and Coke was welcome after our cycle, as was the bath / shower with plenty of hot water and water pressure. The design of the motel gives each room a porch outside with a very comfortable double-Adirondack-chair love seat, so the next morning I used the kettle to make my morning coffee and sat out to enjoy the tranquility, gazing over the large front lawn down to the lake.
A note to cyclists - they reasonably ask you NOT to take bikes into the room, and don't have a bike locker, but do allow you to lock your bike to the substantial posts at the front or back of your room. That wasn't a problem for us, but you might want to ask about keeping the bike in the main lodge if you are doing the trail on your $12,000 Cervelo. :)
The motel does not have a restaurant onsite, so as we were on the family plan they gave us coupons for dinner and breakfast at the Resto-Bar Lac Saguay, a short walk away on the main road. Dinner was what you'd expect from a pleasant family restaurant (a limited-choice menu on the family plan) but they Resto-Bar did shine at breakfast. There's not much else we encountered other than a small market shop and a hot-dog / chips stand. But if you were staying longer the room appointments would be perfectly adequate to do your own simple meals.
All in all, we had a good overnight stop here, were cleaned, fed, and slept well, and really felt we were away from the city and on our vacation. A good start!
