“Worth finding!”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

Located a little outside of Guernica, you'll discover a delightful, hillside farmhouse. And the food? Brilliant! Everything about this ancient farmhouse creates a sensory experience. From the tranquil gardens and exterior, to the pleasant aromas of a wood-fueled oven to the hand-hewn beams and smells of what awaits you. We were the only group - 3 of us - in the restaurant for the first 30 minutes, and then two large tables of locals added more exuberance to the beautiful room. My husband and daughter ate the 5-course meal of the day. Each dish was fresh, succulent, melt-in-your-mouth, perfectly seasoned and prepared - astounding! We ate at many of the top-rated restaurants in San Sebastian and Bilbao. Baserri Maitea was by far the best in food, atmosphere and its uniqueness. We highly recommend. Probably the best meal of our lives.

“Great views and great food!”

Located on a hill, from this typical basque house there are great views of the basque countryside. Very high quality cuisine based on local products.

“amazing food”
Reviewed August 18, 2012

a fantastic restaurant in an old farmhouse with wooden beams. the food was excellent and its presentation truly impressive. the taco de pulpo, the squid and the grilled shrimps were super tasty and the texture to die for. the manager choose for us a good bottle of albarino and we found the service impeccable. a must stop when traveling in the area

“A treat to the senses”

Everything about Baserri Maitea is just right. The approach up the mountain, the building, the interior decor, and yes, the food. Don't miss this Basque jewel.

“Great food, bad treatment to us”
Reviewed November 20, 2011

I celebrated my wedding there. The place is beautiful, and the food is great.
However, the treatment we received from the manager was totally inappropriate. First of all, she gave us the menus from last year, and when we went to taste the menu, we couldn't understand why we were being served something different from what our menu said, We finally figured out what the problem was and, instead of apologizing for the misunderstanding, she got mad at us.
When you celebrate your wedding there, they give you a free night at the Arteaga Castle, which belongs to the same people, so that so spend your wedding night at the main suite. They didn't tell us that we had to make the reservation, just that we got that free night. Fortunately, we found out two weeks before the wedding that we had to make the reservation. It was already too late, but they told me we could spend any other night there. I told them I live abroad, so we wouldn't be able to use the night. I asked them if my sister and her boyfriend could stay there, and they said yes, no problem. So they made a reservation and went there, only to find out that they didn't have the suite, but a regular room. They told them they were doing them a favor, so they shouldn't complain. Well, my husband and I didn't get to enjoy the suite, and neither did they. We paid an exaggerated amount of money for the wedding, so I believe we deserve a better treatment.
