We spent 3-days at DRL and we booked the 3-day special which we highly recommend. We were 4 in our party - Husband and I from California, USA and my brother and nephew from Cape Town, South Africa. Etta and Derek made sure all our bookings were arranged and had a lovely meal waiting when we arrived around 8pm from Cape Town. Etta also upgraded us to the Big Five Room at no extra charge! It was very homey and welcoming and we were able to retire soon after the long drive and woke up refreshed to a lovely breakfast on the deck overlooking the Sundays River before Etta drove us through Addo for our Game Drive. We loved it! we saw so many animals. The next morning after another scrumptious breakfast we went on the ferry down the river to the sand dunes which we climbed to the top (part of the 3-day special) accompanied by Tombie (Cute!) - later that day at 2pm to Schotia where we did the safari and dinner around the lapa. The whole experience was so great and well organized and we highly recommend it when visiting Addo. You will not be sorry. My nephew hopes to return in December this year with my niece who was not able to join us on our trip due to work commitments. Mary - Oakland CA

Derrick and Etta were the most congenial, caring, and accommodating innkeepers we've ever experienced. We enjoyed Etta's tour of ADDO ELEPHANT PARK immensely, found the Big Five Suite enchanting and enjoyed the home-style breakfast. I would recommend DungBettle River Lodge to anyone interested in a relaxing and respectful experience. They're the best.

We recently stayed at Dungbeetle River Lodge with two friends who like us, wanted to visit Addo Elephant Park as the climax of our Garden Route tour. The Lodge location is really great being right on the Sundays River and Etta and Derek could not have been more welcoming and helpful hosts and we would not have had such wonderful experiences regarding what we should do without their recommendations . During our short stay the two ladies in our party opted for a 5-hour safari with Derek which was most enjoyable and fun, whilst the two men went Elephant Back Riding - an experience they will never forget. We all then met up for an afternoon/evening safari at Schotia, including a fabulous meal around the campfire and sightings of a fantastic male lion.

Breakfast on the decking looking out over the river was superb - full English, freshly squeezed fruit juice and Derek's amazing freshly baked bread. Both Etta and Derek made us feel like their family and we recommend Dungbeetle to you all.

We pre-booked for one night only, but wished it had been longer. We were welcomed by Derek who was very friendly and hospitable and served us tea and snacks. As we were only staying one night we were hoping to tour the elephant park the next day. This was arranged for us by Etta, who took the four of us out giving us a day to remember.
The lodge is well maintained and in a beautiful setting right on the river overlooking sand dunes.
Breakfast was an experience in itself with a full selection, including home made bread and different jams, eaten on the balcony overlooking the river with the sun rising.
We only wished we had booked for longer to appreciate more all the Lodge and the area had to offer.

We stayed 3 nights with our 12-year old sun and had a wonderful time. Etta and Derek made the plans for a full 3 day package including 2 safaris (1 day @ Addo with Etta and anothe afternoon/evening at Schotia) and one relaxing day at Alendria Dunes and Sundays River.
We had a lovely time. Etta and Derek made the utmost to please us and make us feel comfortable.
Highly recommended.

We spent 2 nights at Dungbeetle which we greatly enjoyed. The host were superbly friendly and helpful and very, very talkative. Rooms are good and spacious. The surroundings are beautiful - go on a canoe trip on the Sundays river to the dunes, and make sure you have enough time and a cold drink. We went on a half day (for lack of time) trip to Addo with Derek, but would definitely recommend spending at least a whole day in the Addo park.
