“Spectacular introduction to Oman”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 7, 2014

The Al Bustan Palace in Muscat is a spectacular introduction to Oman - majestic, gracious, and stunning. The majestic lobby is just the introduction to a lovely property, with a lovely beach excellent health club and great location near the Oman Council.

Our deluxe room was a little small, but well appointed with excellent amenities and great wifi. We had a room overlooking the ocean and it was amazing to wake up and look out at the Indian Ocean.

The extensive grounds are well taken care of and the 50m infinity pool is a great place to swim or socialize.

Is one of the nicest hotels, maybe the nicest hotel, I have ever stayed. And I stayed in quite a few. Although the way to the hotel is not too impressive, the main lobby is truly overwhelming. I have seldomly seen such splendor. The rooms are magnificent and the personnel is extremely friendly and well trained. The atmosphere is very special. The restaurants are excellent and I would recommend a private diner at the beach in the seafood restaurant. In my opinion everything was top notch therefore, this is the only hotel that I have rated a 10. If there is anything negative it is the pricing of the food and drinks but that accounts for all the top places in Oman.

Room Tip: The superior suite is just excellent

We stayed at Al Bustan Palace for an extraordinary and wonderful week which will be a long lasting experience.

POSITIVE
The lobby is just stunning - the classical music in the evening combined with the smell of incense make the experience just perfect.

The rooms are large and luxurious and the staff is very friendly and helpful (also with small children).

The best thing about the hotel is the large park and the beach. Even if the hotel is fully booked you never get the feeling of it being crowded. One can enjoy the privacy underneath the palm trees or in one of the many pools.

NEGATIVE
Sometimes the staff showed a little lack of experience. While having breakfast they sometimes took the cutlery away without replacing it.

The music in the dining hall as well as in the beach pavilion was often a bit too loud and too electric (techno). However, when asked to turn the volume down, the request was always followed swiftly.

SUMMARY
In my opinion one of the pool boys summarized the experience perfectly. When being asked for a comparison of the Al Bustan with an other renown five star hotel in Oman he answered: "Well sir, this is a Palace. The other one is just a nice hotel."

The hotel is very nice, I had an upgrade to an excutive mountain view suite with a private balcony overlooking the Hajjar mountains. This suite is a elegant Room with
a great master bedroom, sitting and dining área, the bathroom is spacious, and it has two separate walking closets and another space for the toilet, it is as a labyrinth.
Even tough the hotel doesn't have many restaurants the food and the service are excelent in all of them. The best are the buffet style and the beach one.
The commun areas are huge.

We have just spent a week at the Al Bustan and couldn't fault it. As others have said, the spectacular setting is a highlight, as is the hotel's architecture. On arrival we were upgraded from Junior Suites to Executive Suites, which were very spacious (at 80 sq m they are twice the size of the standard rooms), luxurious and extremely comfortable. The food was excellent and abundant in both the Al Khiran and Beach Pavilion restaurants, particularly the seafood in the latter. (More than a week, though, and it might feel a little like groundhog day dining at the Al Khiran). Service around the gardens and pool area was impeccable, and there were good quality sporting activities including dinghy/hobie sailing, paddle boards, windsurfing, a gym with classes, table tennis, football and volleyball - plenty for teenagers who don't want to lounge around on a subbed. Excursions arranged for us and restaurant recommendations given by the hotel were excellent too. Be aware, though - it is very pricy. But then it IS a Ritz-Carlton!

Room Tip: Ask for rooms with a sea view. The hills behind the hotel don't offer much to look at.

Amazing hotel and beautiful grounds. Started in Lagoon Room which was very spacious and well decorated but we were upgraded to the Presidential Suite which was fabulous. Pool/beach staff were so good and we never had a problem getting four sun beds together. Sun beds are great and you got an ice cooler with bottled water without asking. Thought the beach restaurant's menu a bit limited in the evening - same menu for lunch and dinner. The buffet breakfast was excellent.

We really enjoyed our week's break and would love to return once the Spa has been built.
