I was with a group of colleagues touring the Persian Gulf. This was our first destination arriving late in the evening. In the morning we realized how lovely the property is and how wonderful the location. After touring all day, we relaxed at the beach. The hotel is magical. Staff was wonderful. The breakfast buffet was exquisite. Everything was beyond our expectations. I would highly recommend staying here.

Gorgeous hotel, but I would avoid the resturants the food is not what i expected from a five star establishment - not great and way over priced. Avoid the 'theme nights' in the main resturant the food is really bad. Furthermore on my stay there was works right next to the main pool and the lovely beach resturant was closed for work as well. Overall the hotel was good but not worth the money we spent - ive stayed in better 5 stars before.

Spent our 10 day summer holiday at the Hotel and the overall experience was superb.
People thought we were mad to go in August but although it was hot it certainly wasnt unbearable.
From the moment we arrived all the staff were fantastic and couldnt do enough for you, they are a real credit to the Hotel.
Prebooked a half board package with buffet breakfast & dinner taken in the Al Kiaran Restaurant. Forget any misapprehensions about buffets, this was certainly at another level, the food was top class with a different theme on each night.
The drinks arent cheap but unless your an alcoholic I doubt it will break the bank, the arrival duty free at the airport is reasonable and you can keep cans/bottles chilled in the rooms mini bar which is stocked with complimentary soft drinks..
The hotel was fairly quiet, the hotel grounds are vast and immaculatly kept, plenty of beds with shade and lots of complimentary bottles of water keeping chilled in your cool box.
Used the sports centre and boats which were great, there is free wifi in your room & around the pool.
Oman is a wonderfull place to visit and the people go out of their way to make you feel welcome, thoroughly recommend the Hotel & Oman for a summer holiday (represents great value in the summer).

Room Tip: Mountain view was fine.

The hotel is beautiful and the people are amazingly friendly. I read other reviews that complained of cheap coffee and expensive wifi, but that was not my experience. We stayed in a lagoon room, had free wifi throughout the resort and a nespresso machine in our room. The only downsides were that the pools are not temperature controlled, and they felt like warm bath water. Our kids didn't really mind, though and loved their daily swim. Breakfast buffet had all the breakfast elements, but never changed and was pretty average if you compare it to other Ritz or kempinski resorts. Rooms are clean, but very small and the mattresses really need to be updated. Our mattress was bowed out and incredibly uncomfortable, and the extra bed for our daughter had to be changed 3 times until they brought ones where you don't feel the springs as soon as you touch it. Loved the complimentary juices and drinks in the room, and the room staff that gave my children extra chocolates every day. The Chinese restaurant is wonderful, but the room service food is pretty bad. Overall, we had a good stay, and really think there is no better place in muscat, but if you compare it to say the kempinski in bangkok, then it will be slightly below expectations.

On arrival at the Al Bustan Palace we were welcomed as might be expected and shown up to our room on the 6th floor. Unfortunately we found the musty, damp smell in the room too much and we asked for a change of room. Our receptionist responded admirably by parking us in the Atrium with coffee and cakes while he upgraded us to a room with a sea view. Very nice, and not so musty, but has turned out to be still damp. Muscat is undeniably a very humid place at this time of year, but it appears the hotel's air conditioning is faulty.

I have a theory that the alterations to wall off the room corridors from the Atrium has affected the HVAC system, but I'm no expert! All I know is that our room remained damp and humid throughout our stay. Even the paper our welcome letter was typed on went soggy!

Apart from that the service and facilities were excellent. We used room service on our first and last evenings and ate in the Al Khiran buffet restaurant one night. We also used the beach and pool where the 2-for-1 happy hour ensured a good start to the evenings aided by a couple of margaritas served under our beach umbrella. The Al Bustan's private beach is unrivalled in Oman and the gardens are even more impressive following the removal of the old raised pool area and the replacement of the lime trees with palms. The new "infinity" pool is also very impressive.

Overall, we felt the hotel was still a notch down on its heyday in the 90's. Service was good, but staff were often not around when we needed them. On the other hand, all our requests were handled positively, so we lacked for nothing, really.

Room Tip: Avoid the sixth floor? Other rooms may not have the same AC problem we had.

We spent the Eid holiday at the Al Bustan and had an amazing time. Staff, accommodation, facilities etc are of the highest quality backed by the beauty of a country that everyone should take time out to visit. The Hotel restaurants are amazing with dinner on the beach something very special as a birthday celebration. Although the hotel was full it never appeared so and there was plenty of space by the beach, around the pool and through the luxuriant gardens. The Atrium is an astonishing piece of architecture. We aim to go back every year!

For us this had the key ingredients for a perfect family holiday:
Luxurious comfortable spacious beds
Tranquility in every area of the hotel and outside around the pools
Warm friendly courteous service
Fabulous breakfasts, excellent food in restaurants
All at a very good value.

Some irritations and oddities, such as being woken one night at 11pm for the nightly turn-down service, and to get anywhere you need to plan on a 30 minute taxi ride (the hotel is really quite distant from downtown Muscat) but these are terribly minor quibbles. We spent nine nights here and did a lot of research about places to see and things to do in Oman/Muscat but the truth is that we all had such a wonderful relaxing yet fun-filled time that we only left the hotel once, to eat the best Indian meal I have ever had downtown. The hotel staff were extremely kind to our children and the range of activities on offer were great for our 7 year old daughter. The hotel is right on the beach and - unlike Dubai for example - you can swim in the sea at this time of year, i.e. August, the sea temperature was perfect.

Unquestionably a five star experience, probably the best family holiday we have ever had, and I can't wait to go back. It crossed my mind not to write a review just to try to keep this a secret...but the secret's already out. I will never go back to Dubai all the time that this hotel exists. Not that there is anything badly wrong with Dubai - just that Dubai has become too well known. Oman is truly a haven of peaceful rest and this hotel is wonderfully managed.

Room Tip: Rooms with mountain view are cheaper than rooms abutting the pools - and just as good. So do not be...
