Spent a week at this oasis, resort hotel a bit dated in some respects but impressive nevertheless. Lagoon room means you can slip into a pool from the deck of one's room, a nice touch. Good beach and views of surrounding mountains, and beautiful spacious grounds so you can always find a quiet spot to "chill". Pricey drinks and food and no real options within 10 km (taxi ride) so just go with the flow . I would come again but personally only for a few days of expensive luxury and combine with a similar hotel in a busier location (Dubai Marina. )

Room Tip: Lagoon room if you like swimming

We stayed here for a week at the beginning of March. A lovely hotel with a very impressive foyer. We had a lagoon room and especially enjoyed the private decking access to the pool. It's a really nice touch to have a complimentary mini bar (no alcohol). Room service meals and drinks were great. The buffet breakfast excellent as are the themed dinners in the same restaurant area. The Beachfront restaurant is fantastic too, the Chinese restaurant is ok.

The grounds are lovely and it's really relaxing on the beach area or lawns, and the beach bar has a good choice of snacks,

Little niggles - we had asked for a room to accommodate my disabled husband, specifically wanting a walk in shower rather than a climb in bath with shower over. Disappointed that despite our travel agency having this request confirmed, we got the climb in bath! The room key card swipe system was constantly failing - you are not allowed into the foyer in beachwear so each time we returned to our room to find the key card not working we had to ring reception and wait for someone to come and let us in.

Would visit again if ever in Oman and are interested to see how the Spa (under construction) turns out.

Hotel is slightly old. The facade looks quite austere and intimidating, particularly if you view it from the sea against the jagged rocky mountains behind it. But services are generally very good. Staff are friendly and also greet guests with a smile. Rooms are of decent size, but not terribly clean. Carpets are stained and the shelves on the mini bar are dusty. Food is generally good quality. Breakfast choices are limited to the basic and anyone who has an Asian palette are not catered for. That's particularly disappointing given that the hotel has the best Chinese restaurant I've ever visited outside of Asia. In fact, I would like to thank the staff at the restaurant for their hospitality and good food; they even cooked the fish that I had caught with my son. The sea was much of a let down in my opinion, as there was a lot of litter floating on the surface and visibility was poor. Sealife also seemed to be non-existant. Furthermore, because it is also used as a state guest-house, security can be tight and can be irritating, especially with police gunboats patrolling offshore and disturbing the tranquility. Overall, a good stay and is very convenient for visiting the city and surrounding areas.

First time in Oman and seems an interesting place - originally had The Chedi booked but due to a review on Tripadvisor switched to Al Bustan and wished I hadn't.

That sounds a tad dramatic, it's fine - rooms are reasonably well appointed and the outside/beach area is very pleasant, it's just not wow.
On the website it suggests it was refurbed in 2007 (i think) and refurbed is the word, the restaurant is dated and feels very much like a 2star hotel canteen. The service is average at best, and rather amateur, and as for the concierge, I'm not really sure why they are there as its laboured and not overly informative ... The words can do better spring to mind.

As I say it's ok, for this to be rated as highly as it is on TripAdvisor I was disappointed.

We stayed at this hotel on two separate occasions in March with a trip in between visiting the sights of Oman. The hotel were very accommodating storing our baggage as we went on our tour of the country for four days. We found the service and the amenities excellent and staff were very quick to help with any concern or query we had, which were very minor and not worth mentioning on here! The hotel was spotlessly clean and the restaurant food was lovely ( although alcohol is extremely pricey) but I suppose you would expect this in a 5* hotel in a Muslim country? The beach restaurant was our favourite and a lovely spot to done! We would definitely stay here again, but be prepared for the cost!
