PDO Planetarium is a wonderful discovery. Kids and adults will have a good time here. The curator of Planetarium is a passionate man that will lead you in imaginary trips between the stars. Are also available start gazing trips in Al Amerat area.

One can feel right on high skies when in side... it's a great feel to go in to enjoy the planetarium show cases the solar and lunar contents. The ambience is quite good.

“Very Informative and interesting!!”

The PDO planetarium has shows for the public every Saturday at 4PM in english. There are about 5-6 type of shows so you can take your kids for these shows almost every weekend. Mail planetarium@pdo.co.om for the schedule and you can plan your visits accordingly. But please keep in mind not to take any eatables to the planetarium. Mobiles and cameras are not entertained.
The show we attended today (18th May) was titled Dynamic Earth and was very interesting. Before the end of the shows there is a laser show which will appeal more to the kids.
Do get yourself and your kids interested in astronomy by going for these shows. All shows are made very enjoyable by the presenter (also the curator of the museum), Mr. Marwan Shwaiki.

Star Gazing Activity
I was checking out the timings of the museums in muscat when I happened to check the time of the shows at the PDO planetarium. I sent a mail to planetarium@pdo.co.om asking for the timings and I was sent the schedule. In the schedule I noticed that once every month, there is a star gazing activity organised at a place about 30 kms from Ruwi and coincidentally it was the same day that I was checking the schedule, ie,. 15th May 2013.
I booked 2 seats for the Saturday show at the planetarium and the star gazing.

I wasn’t too sure about the route as I have just started exploring Muscat, so I left at about 5.30 for the 6.30PM show. Reached there at about 6.10 but was surprised not to find anything there. I drove around for a while and went back to the place according to the map and at 6.25PM, Mr. Marwan, the curator of the museum and also the person conducting the star gazing arrived at the place. Within a few minutes the place had about 30-35 people, some regulars and some new.

Mr. Marwan makes the activity very interesting for people of all ages with his way of explanation. The 2 hours at the place passed really fast. If you are interested in star gazing, do book your seats (by sending a mail to planetarium@pdo.co.om) , take your camping chairs and head out.
