“Not as stunning as I would have expected”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

We arrived at Muscat Hills by cab (what a ride!). The helping hands at the arrival were just amazing: they helped us to get the golf bags out of the cab and out of the travel bags, the put the bags onto the cart and took care of the travel bags etc etc.

The course is nice and because the fairways are wide balls with a hook or slice might be still ok to play. There are several wadis you need to play over. It was our first play after the long winter break and I was thankful, that we only played nine holes.... especially because a extremly strong wind made it impossible to play straight.

I was expecting a posh club house with a fancy bar and pro shop. But i was completely mistaken. Clubhouse, bar and proshop are average if at all. But for me absolutely ok.

“A Friendly Round of Golf”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

Muscat Hills has the potential to be a truly stunning golf experience, but somehow it just falls short.

The course itself is challenging in places with some stunning views and some interesting hazards (wadis). It is a good course for average golfers because it is quite forgiving (if you go wide of the fairway you can usually recover).

But, once you look just past the edges, it starts to look quite scruffy, almost as though they have given up on the course without quite finishing it.

The club house also looks tired and dated and, in my experience, was not very welcoming.

The most unfortunate thing for me was the cost. The green fees are cheaper than at its closest rival course, but the additional costs of club hire, buggy hire range balls and (for my playing partner) shoe hire, are all included in the costs elsewhere. At Muscat Hills they soon ramp the cost up to a point where it is a very expensive round on an adequate golf course.

Dear Stuart,

Many thanks for your positive comments about the Muscat Hills layout. Muscat Hills is currently in an excellent condition and the greens and fairways are in lush condition. Many of the "scruffy" areas you may have seen are actually "waste sand" areas which in some cases are the "rough" or the area is due for our phase 2 property and residential construction due to start shortly and with these areas there is not much we can do.

Currently Muscat Hills have a temporary clubhouse which is fully licensed and has an affordable menu to choose from. It may appear dated however significant improvements have been made continually to the temporary clubhouse on a yearly basis. Opposite the current temporary clubhouse is the anticipated new clubhouse & hotel which again is projected to start shortly, hopefully you will return and see a great new clubhouse in the future.

In terms of rental equipment, Muscat Hills do charge for rental golf clubs, golf carts and shoes which is in general a worldwide standard and if you are playing golf at a golf club you do expect to pay for any rental equipment used. Muscat Hills do have a minimal cost of buggy hire which is not written into the green fee price. The cost of our golf carts are 2.5 OMR per person which converts to £4, quite a reasonable fee.

Muscat Hills offer all golfers, complimentary water & a small basket of range balls to warm up with if you are playing a round of golf.

Once again, thanks for the positive comments and all points will be passed to the Director of Golf to review for future golfers & visitors benefit.

Many thanks

“Cruiseship golfguide says great!”
Reviewed April 7, 2013

Muscat Hills! I have been back in Germany for 2 weeks and I miss it already! I fell in love with Oman, but I took Muscat Hills Golf Club into my heart!

Not only are you greeted here with a smile by Jelal and Milo, the Pro from Germany, but also the caddiemaster twins and Mohammed at the bag drop off point. And even before you hit your first ball on the shady driving range, you just know your first coffee is going to be great because Maria, the friendliest waitress in the world, will serve you as you look over the driving range and the fluffy palm trees.

After checking the course rating and popping into the proshop to confirm your tee time with Yasser, it is time to practice putting. The greens are in great condition. Ask Sergio Garcia about this. I saw him play here in December. He left his signed glove in the clubhouse. I think he played a 67 here.

Since Sergio played at the club, I have seen week-to-week improvements on the prefab club house and the bunker sand on the course, not to mention the freshly planted palm trees at the entrance of the club.

Tee off - the first hole is straight forward, keep a little left on the fairway. GPS in your golfbuggy clarifies how you should play the course in metres or yards. Pay attention to the flyover comments if you are playing here for the first time - they really help! Take 12 balls with you... you will make acquaintance with what the locals call a wadi. For golfers these are huge gorges over which we have to play! As you know, golfers do not always do what they are told, so for first time players, reloading is not unusual here!

What adds to the pleasure of playing,l are the many friendly and extremely patient greenkeepers doing continual up-keep chores. The twins mentioned earlier, might possibly come around and check if your divoting bottle is full of sand and whether you have enough water! It is really hot in Oman, but you will never go thirsty at this club! (Hole 19 has specific hours to serve alcohol. Check this before you book a tee time!)

The South African Director of Golf, Ray Stopforth, brings his know-how with him from well-known golf courses in the hot southern hemisphere, for example, Fancourt. His son is the Head Greenkeeper in Muscat Hills, so you can imagine the value of family, experience and expertise for this course will bring this beautiful golf course into a bright future.

The great marketing and management team makes sure operations run smoothly! Checkout this homepage! What a beauty! Speaking of beauty - you can speak a little dutch with Janneke, Clubhouse Manager from The Netherlands. Muscat Hills Golf Club stands for service par excellence!

I played here every Tuesday for 18 weeks with my passengers. Not one person was disappointed with the course, possibly with his or her own game, but never with the grass. The views onto the Haja mountain range and then again towards the ocean on the horizon gives a good topographical idea of what the rest of Oman has to offer.

Take a holiday here! A visit to the Muttrah Souk or to the Al Bustan Palace Hotel; take a Dhowboat trip along the coast or a jeep tour to the 2. largest canyon in the world; see the amazinng geological sites on the way to the city Nizwa. The caleidescope of colours make this landscape absolutely breathtaking. The the sunsets and the friendliness of the Omani people and the expates living here will make you want to return as soon as possible.

I felt at home here! After the round you might get lucky and be able to drink a beer with a local and chat about life in Oman in a dashdasha and turban and about the infrustructural wonders that Sultan Quaboos has brought to Oman. I was lucky enough to do this! I will never forget the people I got to know on my orient cruise with TUI Cruises Mein Schiff 2!

Thank-you again to the team at Muscat Hills who always made our port stop in Muscat a day to remember for me and all my golf-playing passengers!

“Great experience of golf in the Middle East”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

As a resident in Oman and a frequent golfer I had the choice between three great golf courses in Muscat. I chose Muscat Hills as it is a spectacular course with its unique wadis and great views to the sea and Hajar mountains and very enjoyable for all standards of golfers! As an average golfer it's great to be rewarded for a good shot and not stuck in a bunker or tree as on other courses! Fairways and greens are in excellent condition all year round and it's a pleasure to be welcomed by a very friendly staff! I'd like to recommend Muscat Hills to everyone new to the game as well, with the range and academy with all facilities right there and great teaching Pros giving you the best start to the game!
Enjoying a cool drink or a light meal on the lovely patio of the temporary club house is always a very pleasant way to end a great day of golf!
I wish you guys good luck for the future development of the hotel and new 19th hole!
