Radisson Blu Hotel, Muscat
Ranked #15 of 61 Hotels in Muscat
Reviewed April 10, 2013

We knew the Radisson chain and thought it would be a safe choice.
The room was disappointing. There was no wardrobe space so we asked a room with a normal wardrobe and there wasn't any (there was 1 hanging rack and no shelves or drawers, and this for 2 people?). The only option was to upgrade to a junior suite, which we did. There was plenty of wardrobe space :-)
We had a room in the ocean theme and I must say, it is not that impressive. It looks cheap and even a bit dated.
The reception staff was extremely helpfull, big thanks to them. But the rest of the staff was a complete disaster. The cleaning crew didn't understand english and wasn't too precise...
The bar staff was invisible and when you finally found one, it took them 40 minutes to bring 2 ice teas.
It seemed that it was low season for the hotel, which we completely understand but maybe they should inform the guests about minimum service...

We came on a late night flight to Muscat and before heading to beaches and decided to have one night stay close to airport. No hotel transfer was available, but great quality taxi was 15 minutes and 15 euros away.

We were upgraded to a business class room, which i assume was same size but came with slightly better equipment. We had e.g. Nespresso machine in our room on complimentary base with 6 capsules compared with simple Nescafe packs in five star Shangri La Al Husn... Bed with plenty of pillows and good quality sleep.

Despite past midnight arrival we got room service food in 15 minutes - paid 20 euros for enough food for two with great quality

Breakfast was for four star hotel very good with wide selection. Also the pool and the surrounding was as good as can be in a city environment.

For business purpose or an overnight stay close to airport i can highly recommend this hotel. It is however not by the beach and also not at the citycenter

For 130 euros for room with breakfast it was well worth it

Stayed here on business for a couple of nights; it was fine but nothing special and certainly not worth what we paid. The exterior is fairly uninspiring, as is the lobby. Check in was a bit laborious for several of my colleagues and check out not much better. My first floor room was pretty standard for this type of hotel and looked out over the car park.

There is free WiFi although it's not especially fast. Breakfast buffet was OK but I've certainly had better in the area and the guy serving was either painfully shy or didn't speak much English - I think the former. We also had one lunch there, which was fine, and a dinner buffet on a Wednesday night which was probably the best part as far as meals went. Very popular though so if you want to sit outside, you need to book in advance.

We also visited O'Malleys Bar and the pool bar, both of which were fairly quiet but obviously frequented by single expats who go there precisely because of that.

All in all, it was nothing particularly memorable, although not a lot to complain about.

Room Tip: Suppose you might see a bit more than the car park if you aim for the rooms a bit higher up

Did not stay at the Raddisson but visited O'Malley's the Irish bar In the basement. This is an Ex pats favoured watering hole. Good food and draught beer/Guinness on tap. The adverts that decorate the walls spell Whisky without the 'e' so the true Irish credentials are a bit suspect. Friendly and busy. Monday night is quiz night which is good fun.

Stayed here for two nights in total, bookending our stay in Oman. Perhaps it was tiredness but our initial impressions were not as favourable as during the second stay when we found the hotel to be very good. On both occasions we were allocated twin beds rather than the double we had booked but nevertheless slept extremely well. The standard rooms were quite small but perfectly adequate. Breakfast had noticeably improved for our second stay (e.g. freshly squeezed juice)although, perversely, service standards had slipped. We enjoyed dinner in Olivios where the food was simple but good.

The outside of this hotel is nothing to write home about, but the rooms are lovely - huge and clean, the service excellent, the pool area is clean and quiet and the Tajin restaurant amazing. If I were to visit Muscat again I would definitely stay here. Mohammed on reception couldn't have been more helpful if he tried. Do stay here!
