After reading all of the reviews, I rushed to the beds on arrival to check these old sheets you all talked about and they were exquisite and new. I then ran to the cupboard to check the coat hangers and when I found there weren't enough, I called housekeeping and they immediately brought more. Apart from that, everything ws amazing. We stayed in the sutie and had free laundry, free cocktail hours, free mini bar and just about everything we wanted for free. The service by those lovely Omani was above par, the food mouthwatering, the hotel was so superbly sexy and the cooled pool a welcome respite from the heat. It is by far the most amazingly friendly, beautiful and stupendous hotel I have ever stayed in and Muscat is a MUST visit city. The diving is excellent - manta rays, turtles - the people so beautiful and welcoming, the city itself, clean, safe and beautiful. A wonderful holiday! Thank you Chedi.

Firstly can I say that I travel a fair amount on business and have quite high expectations - The Chedi met them all and some.

We live in Muscat and my wife surprised with what I thought was dinner and turned out to be a night at the Chedi. She had booked a Superior room and was lucky enough to be upgraded to a suite.

The room - probably the nicest I have stayed at where the Emirates Towers in Dubai was my previous bechmark. Ours was a single story suite so also benefitted from a stunning dome above the bed. The decor is minimalist but done using quality materials like limestone, black marble and cherry wood. The bathroom again was probably the finest I have seen with a walk down into huge black marble bath that took ages to fill but was worth it. Bed was comfortable although the pillows were a bit strange and not very supportive. The room also had an iPod and big TV in the living room and an excellent free mini-bar with pre-filled ice bucked - a nice touch. When we arrived there were also candles lit beside the bed and also the bath, again another nice touch.

Restaurant was as good as always with a varied and iteresting menu that is perhaps in need of a change as its been the same for some time. The waiting staff are a little less vigilant than in past visits but that is a comment rather than a criticism.

The pool is truly excellent with cool towels and lemon water a-plenty and loads of loungers at this time of year.

Surroundings - the Chedi at night is truly a sight to behold with stunningly lit architectural features, whenever we go for dinner we always take a wander throught the gardens afterwards - it is calm and stylish in the extreme.

All in all it was a wonderful surprise, excellent value at summer rates and a truly relaxing day - thanks guys, we will I'm sure make use of the excellent summer rates again and have told many of our friends already.

My wife and I decided to stay at this fantastic hotel for a week revolving around my 50th birthday. It was a personal recommendation from friends of ours who live in Bahrain and they raved about it. We stayed in a Deluxe Club room which was very good, although more storage space would have been better and certainly more coat hangers, (what is it about hotels and coat hangers . or the lack of them). I could certainly recommend the club rooms as the extras, such as free pre meal drinks, canapes and free laundry, are well worth the extra cost.
The staff were very helpful to my wife who organised a succession of surprises including a candlelit dinner on the beach, although make sure they don't put you too close to the sea! Oh yes, the added benefit of the cabaret act of performing hermit crabs on the water line was highly amusing.
The spa was very professionally run and I thought that the treatments were excellent value for money compared with European and American spas.
The pools were superb as were the poolside staff and even though there were a few aeroplanes flying over head they did not spoil the tranquil atmosphere.
The restaurant was also good, the patisserie chef was outstanding and I blame him for putting on 2 kgs to my frame over the week. The wine list offered excellent with wines to fit all pockets. It was a shame that the Arabian Court was not open, they must really be having problems there as it was due to open by no later tha March, but none of us are perfect.
Finally the staff were attentive at all times and so good you hardly noticed they were there. Would we come back again if we needed to chill out....what do you think!!

  • Liked — The atmsophere, staff, pools and spa
  • Disliked — Not enough storage space and not enough Coathangers

Maybe it's because we don't stay in hotels like this very often but we found the whole set up excellent over our 10 night stay over Easter. The Serai Room (Basic Room) was more than adequate, it was serviced twice a day. The service throughout was very pleasant and efficient without being "in your face".
The 2 pools were quite beautiful and we had no difficulty getting sunbeds.

The lighting of the place at night was lovely to look at and the whole ambience was delightful.

There were one or two snags such as the aircraft and the immediate vicinity of the hotel is nothing to write home about.

The aircraft were no big deal. Maybe my threshold of grief is much higher as I used to live near Heathrow.

Oman itself is not Dubai, it is a more basic place and does not pretend to compete. It is for those who really want a relaxing holiday and we would not hesitate to return to both Oman and the Chedi.

  • Liked — Design of the whole environment
  • Disliked — Immediate surroundings. Nowhere to walk

Normally I will not take the time to write reviews but I had to make an exception for the Chedi as so many people told me it was exceptional and I have already being to the Datai and the Setai.

So we went there for Easter -peak time-for 4 days.
We booked a Superior Room and were told by Amex that it was very likely that we got a sea view... well, the Superior Rooms are not exceptional but rather average - average size and average decor, you could be anywhere in the world.
WE got no view - a third of all rooms at the Chedi face the back and that means a wall or the road or carpark.
The Sheets were old... very old. Not even in cheap hotels you get that.
The planes... well, there may not be that many as in other places but it is still a nuisance.
The Beach... the sea is warm but the beach is certainly not good or very clean (and the peble can be annoying).
The sun loungers... all the rooms were booked and we ended up struggling to get a good place as people here wake up very early.
Having said that... the ones on teh garden, under the palm trees are really nice to lounge
Spa: good treatments although the list is short and they offer no day packages like the do at the Datai.
Restaurants and Food: good (but not exceptional, my husban got food poisoining). We went out 2 times and even managed to go to Shangri-la to eat... Shangri-la is quite a dissapointemnt.
Service is good but not as good as their Asian counterparties
they also seem to have a (minor) issue with women asking for things... after all, Oman is a macho country.

Bottom line: The Chedi is good, even cool in many aspects, but it is not exceptional and I think they charge too much for the rooms they offer.

  • Liked — the place is cool
  • Disliked — the rooms - nothing special and poor value for money

We spent four nights here earlier this month for our Wedding Anniversary and we were in heaven for our whole stay. The property is stylish and looks as good at night lit by huge bowls of fire as it does during the day when the sun sparkles off the while buildings. Neat box tree hedges frame the elegant pools and lawns, and the two, slate-lined swimming pools are warm and inviting. The room is averagely decorated, but our rate included free mini-bar, access to a cocktail lounge with snacks, and free laundry - which after 2 weeks in India and Nepal we really valued!

The staff are superb - they know you by name from the first minute, and they go about their job unobtrusively. The main restaurant is attractive whenther you eat inside or out, and the menu is long and varied, and includes the finest seafood bisque I have had anywhere in the world - and I've tried a few! Breakfast is a cut above your usual hotel buffet, with yogurts served in individual hand-thrown pots, and a wide selection of juices, cold cuts, and hot food.

Our two tiny quibbles were that you could only read the Lounge library books in the lounge library, whe we would have loved to take them to read on a sun-lounger, and the news-junkies in us found the 20inch TV in the bedroom too small to be seen in bed... but hey, as I said, our quibbles are minor.

We slept very well, ate more than we should, saw dolphins, got great tans, and met some lovely people - staff and guests. A super place.

My wife and I have spent six days at the Chedi, after 3 days of visit
of this extraordinary country. We were a bit anxious after having read some negative reviews. Our experience was excellent.
1. The staff: very friendly and helpful; seemless registration, quite
professional restaurant staff.
2. The planes: no, this is not an aircraft carrier; there are a few planes, but nothing unbearable.
3. The desalinization factory: if you take the pain of going to the end of the beach, you will see it ...
4. The rooms: we had a de luxe room; very sober design, very well kept; only negative comment: not too much room for the clothes. No terrace, but this was our choice.
5. The food: high quality; pappardelle ai funghi, lobster, biriany, angus beef, sushi ... at top level. Also splendid breakfast.
6. The wines: extensive wine list, with good choices at all prices (vintage not mentioned).
7. The pools: the pleague of "reservations" reigns even there; however, no problem : till 11 am, there is plenty of room.
8. The gardens: absolutely beautiful.
9. The beach: this is a mixed sand / pebble beach; but the sea is absolutely delicious.
Conclusion: maybe the Chedi beats the Four Seasons Charm el Cheikh. Moreover, the country is really worth the visit (I advise to rent a 4x4 + guide).
