“Serene and Beautiful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 22, 2014

A stunningly beautiful hotel off the beaten path of old Muscat. Chedi is known for elegant simplisticity and they got it right here as well. The decor calms the mind and spirit. The food at both restaurants was superb - the beach front restaurant has a very romantic setting. the Chedi knows the power and seduction of water and designed beautiful ponds throughout the property and lovely pools overlooking the warm sea. It is wonderful just to stroll the property, especially at night when the walk ways, ponds and pool are lit up, and the air temperature is a bit cooler. the rooms are well proportioned and beautifully decorated. the staff were incredibly warm and helpful. Unfortunately Chedi is not in walking distance to town and the surrounding area doesnt offer much if you are looking for an interesting walk. You need to order a taxi for any sight-seeing exploration. But the property offers great quiet spots to sit and take in relaxation and beauty.

As expats we have the luxury to go for dinner in this beautiful hotel. It has been a while ago, but unfortunately we had a similar experience. The grounds are very dark, almost a bit spooky. The beach restaurant is stunning and romantic. Unfortunately the type of staff doesn't add to this feeling. Their English is rarher poor and They are simply not really friendly or attentive. The Food was great, although the portion of the desert way top much (mille feuille) which makes iT less special.

As always there was a steep Bill. We had a Nice Evening, but the overal experience was certainly not 5 star.

We visited the Chedi over Christmas 2013 as part of a large group ( 3 nationalities, 4 rooms, 25 year age spread) so it's safe to say we were a demanding bunch.

The hotel is beautifully laid out with plenty of well designed spaces both inside and out. It has three pools which while we were there ranged from 25 to 28 degrees despite it being unusually chilly for the time of year while we were there. For the active among us the 100m (yes, that's the length of 2 Olympic sized pools) Long Pool is a great place to get in some serious swimming and it's sited right next to one of the best hotel fitness centers any of us had ever seen. The Spa was highly praised too, great treatments in a very luxurious environment.

The best part of the Chedi however is the food. They have 5 restaurants each with something to offer. Underlying all of them however is the fact that they have clear strengths in Asian, Indian, Arabic and Western cuisine...in fact in the main restaurant you can clearly see (through glass walls) these 4 kitchens in operation. We've not encountered a hotel before where you could mix so many different styles during a meal without compromise. It's just as well the pools and gym are so good otherwise we'd all have gone home looking like blimps!

Other important touches at the hotel are free wifi throughout, free movies on demand and wonderfully attentive staff at all time.

Principle criticisms would be a woeful lack of storage space in the rooms and almost non-existent signage....if you want to find somewhere you'll need to ask.

Thoroughly recommended

Room Tip: Upper floor (2 or 3) in the East building have better views.

It's an amazing place to be in the winter months. We were there in December and really enjoyed ourselves. Great hotel, beautiful landscape. Service could improve a little especially in the members lounge. On the first day I convinced my partner that the waiter was having a bad day. But the next day he was rude again. And he never gave us any sort of service. We pretty much did everything ourselves. We never went there after that even tho we had paid those extra dollars.
Beach restaurant was amazing. A perfect place for a romantic dinner. We loved it.
Breakfast at the lobby restaurant was so good. A great spread. Staff there were very helpful.
Best part was the long pool. It's really long and beautifully designed.
Overall a great experience. Will definetly go there again but will not recommend to pay that extra money for a swollen face.

We went to the chedi for new year as it was my birthday (only complaint heard others had a birthday cake, which I didnt). The grounds of this hotel are amazing, it is like paradise. Nothing was too much trouble for the guys they would move your beds where ever you wanted them. Breakfast was so good. We ate at the beach restaurant on our last night. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Food very average. We both had two course and a bottle of wine and it came to £180 so not worth it. Every other evening we went out to dine. The grand lounge turkish restaurant was amazing £11 and we had a feast. On shetti road well just off it a beautiful Thai restaurant. The taxi drivers were great. We hired one for four hour to take us to see the sites well worth doing about £50 our money.
We would definitely stay at this hotel again, new years eve was superb thank you..
