A bold claim but I can without doubt say that The Chedi is the best hotel I have ever stayed in. It is luxury personified and I can't recommend it highly enough for a luxury stay. My husband and I stayed in a suite for 3 nights, and we felt like we had landed in heaven. Everything from the sunken bath, modern minimalist interior and amazing service to the stunning food, exterior grounds, infinity pool and the comfiest loungers I have ever had the pleasure to lay on. The Chedi truly is a luxury hotel and I can't recommend it highly enough. Everyone at The Chedi should be very proud of their amazing hotel - I will find it hard to beat.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, treat yourself to a suite. They make you feel like royalty!

This is just a great hotel. The rooms are clean, modern and are equipped with everything you need including a complementary mini-bar. The only drawbacks of the rooms are that there is not enough space to store clothing and to dry a little wash such as swimming pants and sports clothing. In addition the led lighting of all the technical stuff in the room illuminate the room during the night, so we resorted to covering everything (telephones, TV, Wifi-box etc) with towels. But these are minor things.

The resort has three great pools, of which the long pool (103 meters) is absolutely wonderful. It's a salt water pool with a great temperature. The long pool lacks shade and children are not allowed. The other pools are fresh water pools and cooler. The beach is long, clean, but cannot be compared with the white powder-sand beaches on e.g. Mauritius, Seychelles or the Carribean. This is mostly coarse sand, with ground seashells and small pebbles. It's great for swimming.

In our season (september) the resort had four restaurants open during the day and three during the evening. One of these is a fish restaurant, which is at the beach and is the most romantic. One of the pool restaurants is open and this shares its menu with the main restaurant. This menu is large and varied and contains Mediterranean, Asian, Arabic and European dishes, all of great quality. The wine selection is excellent and varied. The dishes are highly priced. We ended up paying about US$220 per day based on alight lunch, some drinks during the day and a dinner with wine and either an appetiser or dessert.

Location-wise the hotel is between the airport and the city centre of Muscat. Within Muscat the souk (bazar) and the grand mosque are things to visit, which are both very interesting. Especially the Mosque is extremely impressive. There is also the possibility to visit some oases and Beduins, but we didn't do this.

We will definitely come back providing the flight connection between Amsterdam and Oman improves.

We stayed at The Chedi for a stop-over in September 2013 on our way back home to Germany.

The good things first (and there are little enough):
nice garden, beautiful pool, great gym

Now to the things that should not happen in a five star hotel.
We had booked through an agency but as I am member of the Leaders Club (the programm of Leading Hotels of the World) I expected to have the usual benefits.

We waited for our room 2 Hours and even when it turned 2 pm no one showed up to pick us. We complained at reception who seemed to be lost and were taken to the room. I felt like at the garage of a shopping center. 1 st floor with all to see the gravel of the roof of the next building. In addistion some workers painting a wall next to our window.
Tne room is called Serail room and yes you feel like the prison. Small room, nothing special, no tub, and worst and very astonishing no cushions on the bed. Call to housekeeping, no answer. another call: yes, we will bring them. I like minimalistic hotels but if it goes like this, not my cup of tea.

As Member of Leaders Club you normally get an upgrade, a nice welcome letter, some sort of Gift, here: nothing !!!

I will have to complain with Leading but more important for me is to warn other guests that you cannot at all expect the standard of a Leading Hotel of the World (And yes, I know what I am talking about, I have seen 78 of Leading Hotels. This one is the worst.... so far.)

Room Tip: dont go for serail rooms

Dear eurodate,

Thank you for taking the time to share the account of your recent stay with us. I am glad to note that whilst you enjoyed some of the services, we are greatly concerned that in quite some other areas it did not match the required level of service.

First and foremost may I apologize most sincerely for the problems you experienced and you have certainly not experienced us at our best.

Our focus is on training with specific focus on pro-activeness and service oriented approach towards meeting and exceeding guest expectations.

We arrived for a 10 day stay with primary objective: relaxation. We have stayed in a Chedi hotel before and this hotel is truly up there. Can't really fault anything apart from a dodgy internet connection - but I think that's something that has to be sorted in Muscat as a whole. The quality of accommodation, attention to detail and comfort, ambience and wonderful staff really made this a thoroughly relaxing experience. Have to say the Chedi Spa Oriental experience was the best I've ever experienced (but also the most expensive!). I would definitely recommend an upgrade to Club to experience those wonderful afternoon teas and evening canapes and drinks. Yum! Thank you Chedi Muscat - we shall be back..

Room Tip: If you can afford it upgrade to a Club Suite as you have a lot more space, outside veranda - which i...

We have been lucky enough to stay in many lovely hotels around the World but this is possibly the best for a totally relaxing and enjoyable holiday.

The hotel just exudes calm and gentleness, the staff are wonderful and the grounds and facilities are immaculate all the time.

There are a few small observations that might be considered.

The internet bandwidth throughout Oman is generally poor and the hotel struggles to keep it working all the time. Unfortunately the TV is driven by the internet so it freezes frequently.

The hotel is extremely expensive to eat by western standards. A typical dinner will be in excess of £100 for two. However cars are cheap to hire at around £20 per day and although the standard of driving in Muscat is unpredictable, there are many restaurants in the area that are very good at £10-£15 per head. Taxis are also available but agree the price before you get in. It should often be only about 10% of what they will start with. So should only be a £3- £4 journey to a local area.

But back to the hotel: The facilities are wonderful. The Spa is one of the best we have seen and there are three lovely pools - each with their own atmosphere. The food is excellent and the breakfast buffet is lovely.

It's a wonderful experience and you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: If you want room that opens outside into the gardens or the beach then you will need a suite.

We went with our 6 month old and it was just an amazing experience. The staff were all so kind and helpful and made our stay a pleasure. The restaurant staff were exceptional but I understand that poor Rex has had a tough time on this. He is direct but actually delightful and went out his way to ensure that we had delicious afternoon tea and evening canapés. Both of which were outstandingly delicious. Thank you v much Rex.

The food was very good but we didn't feel was 5 star, almost basic fair done very well i give you, expensive but sadly doesn't necessarily look amazing...bar the puddings. Not only is it a delight to watch them beaver away in their pastry kitchen but the puddings/ cakes were heavenly. Thank you team.

We upgraded on arrival as no bath, outside space or enough space for a cot in the serai room but the suite that we were given was beautiful. Wonderful sunken bath and domed ceiling in our room as well as outdoor space. So perfect for us.

The hotel is truly spectacular and I would recommend for a romantic get away but not necessarily with a baby, although they did make it terribly comfortable for us, cots, microwaving bottles, offering a fabulous laundry service that gets all of the carrot stains out, we could only use one of the pools and the bumps made it bumpy with a pram but that said, ours was fine with the heat and the hotel.

Thank you chedi for looking after us so well. :-) xxx

Room Tip: If you want a bit more space, yummy afternoon tea, canapés in the evening and your laundry done go t...

Absolutely beautiful hotel. I was fortunate to arrive early with a OmanAir flight and spent a whole day and a half here. I spent countless hours at all three pools. Enjoyed a different meal at all three pools as well. The room was great but the bed was not as good as the Kempinski Hotels. In my top 5 hotel stays.
