Just came back from there. Its a great place to learn about Oman's history and they have great collection of weapons which are pretty cool. The only downside was an air conditioning problem, which was not functioning properly.

a unique Museum-a must see. History traces from the ancient times to medieval to the Modernity. There are different sections and the Meritime section is interesting so is the section telling the emergence of Oman as a modern country with its strong armed forces.

We tried to get in, but it was closed. We went in the afternoon, if you want to visit, make it a morning trip.

i was blown away at how friendly the staff were here, considering its military personal that run the place. i arrived a bit early and was even treated to a cup of tea while chatting to some of the officers. that alone gives it a huge thumbs up. the place is alot bigger than it looks so dont forget to got outside top the back where even a ship is layed out to see as well as missiles and other interesting things. ended up spending about 3 hours there and loved every minute of it. If you come by taxi get them to wait perhaps as finding a cab on the main road, although possible, may take a bit of time and bravery to cross those busy roads by foot. it was perhaps the best spent 1OMR i did in my entire visit to Muscat. Also, unusually for such museums, photos can be taken

A great museum and the building has a history too.

You will be escorted by a member of the armed forces who will show you around and answer questions and generally be happy to talk about anything!

If you are not too interested in military history, you would probably still enjoy the museum and could get around in an hour. If you are really interested you could spend 3 hours.

If you have the time, it's worth a visit.
