We visited the Natural History Museum today (18th May) and very surprised that today the entry was free as it was the Museum Day. Usually they charge 500 baisa per person, children enter free.
You will need little more than an hour to read all the material and move through the whole place. There is also 14 meter skeleton of a humpback whale on display there. Most of the skeletons displayed are of the fish that have been found on the shores of Oman.
The different type of stones found in different parts of Oman have the approximate dates on them, and it is very informative.

This small museum is just the right size for getting an overview of Oman's natural history. It provides an introduction to it's geology, important in a country with so many rugged mountains and other great natural features. The museum also gives a good idea of the country's flora and fauna, including some of the species one is - sadly - less likely to encounter in the wild, such as the Arabian Leopard or the Tahr, both threatened with extinction and a stuffed one of each sitting behind glass in a diorama. We found the museum useful in helping us better understand and identify the features, plants and animals when we later drove into wadis and up into the mountains. I would recommend allowing about an hour for a visit, a bit more if you want to read all the panels and signs.

Very accomplished displays that make clear the geology and natural history of Oman in a most accessible way. Museums can sound a bit dry but this really is worth a stop. And an amazing whale room...

Whenever I pass by this place, I feel so nostalgic. This place is all about childhood memories, when the school often appointed this place as a destination for the kids. The whale's skeleton and the other outstanding creatures found there are simply awesome. I can't remember a lot about it but from what I remember, totally worth visiting.

This is a small museum but full of information well laid out. The Omani gentleman on the desk was really informative and friendly.
