When visiting Oman, I've always been struck by how friendly and personable the people are - how colourful and easygoing, by comparison to other Middle Eastern Society's. But equally, I had been curious as tohow Omani society had developed, particularly over the past 30/40 years, from a traditional and largely agricultural socity to a world class high end tourist destination with a host of 5 star hotels and a discerning visitor base. Ghalya's Museum of Modern Art is a real find and provides a remarkable insight into how those two worlds might have come together. The detail the insight the access and abaility to really touch and feel traditional Omani life is unique and exciting. Contrast then with the Modern Art on exhibit . . .a further extension of not just Omani life but how Middle Eastern life has changed dramatically in some ways and just very subtely in others. The range of artists on display is hugely informative and utterly absorbing. I would highly recommend a trip to this fascinating Museum and Gallery as a 'Must Do' on any visitors trip to Oman . . .and for those of you lucky enough to live there - its a must see. The location, incidentally, is superb, on the Majestic Corniche and not far from His Maj!
