I stayed here for 7 days on a business trip but did not get a choice as to accommodation because this is where the organisers had their conference. Not a bad hotel, sort of business 4*, and they upgraded me on arrival to the 6th floor which has some privileges, but I down rated it for some issues.
Positives included iron and ironing board so could press clotes after a long flight, despite the iron being not steam and not very good. Tea and coffee in the room with a small kettle, and there was a medium size supermarket next door where I could get water (the hotel only gives you 2 small bottles a day) and eg snack food. There is a department store above the supermarket and I got a new pair of Reeboks for not too bad a price. Staff were good and friendly, spoke excellent English, seemed to be mostly from the subcontinent as per normal Oman processes.
Excellent breakfast included with the room rate included smoked salmon and lots of fresh fruit plus the usual hot items and eggs to order. Coffee was less than ordinary however, and rated it as just coloured water; and miniscule glasses for the fruit juice was solved by using a coffee mug to get the OJ.
Negatives included unreliable hot water pressure in the morning, the shower ran hot and cold unexpectedly, In this day and age hotels can easily sort their hot water pressures out using pump pressure control.
Killer bed legs with brakes; the little lever sticks out and if you run your toe onto it it cut through the nail.
Sliding cupboard doors that can trap your fingers.
Even though not very old some of the room furniture is looking shabby, eg chips on the side of the coffee tables and general scruffy look to the carpets; or maybe that’s due to just the dowdy dusty yellow colour they choose.
Superthick doona (duvet) which in this climate is a curiosity. However, I stripped that off and just slept with the bed sheets and the air con on 24C. Otherwise you’ll have the a/c on 20 and have a freezing trip to the loo in the morning.
However, not bad and the price was OK with a discount and room upgrade. Recommended but look around, there may be better.
