Description: A lovely old half-timbered pub in gorgeous countryside 8 miles SE of Hereford and a few miles from Ledbury, Ross and Malvern. Run by chef Stephen Bull. The pub's food is sourced from local ingredients, and there are cask ales and local cider and perry. The Butchers runs regular special food and wine evenings (dates posted on website). Large garden with stream for nice days, two roaring fires in the winter. Separate room bookable for parties. Family and dog friendly. Warm welcome.

“delicious food. great host. excellent atmosphere”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

we visited last week on a tuesday and were not in anyway disappointed. the menu covered all bases and i was asked when i booked if i required any special dietary requirements, a service so often overlooked or missed out completely today. whilst there was only 1 vegetarian option it was well thought out and my cornish dory was cooked to perfection.
the drinks on over were of excellent quality, the wye valley bitter was well kept and the wine list had a reasonably priced prosecco for us to celebrate with.
we will certainly be returning again!!

“A rural pleasure”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

This is what a pub should be: warm, welcoming and dog-friendly . . . Oh, and with excellent food! (NB. remarkable haggis fritters.) Varied, inventive menus cooked to order and seriously tasty. No chi-chi or frills here, just ease, good cheer and helpful service. A nice place to be - whether with friends, colleagues, granny, or even solo. A little off the beaten track but well worth seeking out.

“Top service and food by the fireside”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2013

We arrived in two parties, unfortunately in to different Butcher's Arms! The staff at Woolhope were great when we explained that we were waiting the others arrival in about 30 minutes, we just had a drink and some bread to pass the time. The food was great, the haggis fritters were enormous, the homemade piccalli with the pork terrine was beautiful - all well seasoned on the plate. The grilled liver came pink and moist with bacon, a pile of creamy mash, gravy carrots and greens - all top notch, a burger ordered rare came just as requested, the fish stew was rich and deep in flavour and texture. Struggling to manage a pudding but the pannacotta and spicy plum compote was spot -on, the ice creams especially the bay leaf were excellent and good coffee to finish. An excellent wine list and a good pint of stout topped off a great evening by the fireside.
This is a great find and worth every penny.

“What a great find! Would definitely return! Worth the trip through the lanes! A tiny pub with a great heart!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2013 via mobile

What a friendly little pub!! Fantastic menu! Fantastic welcome! Fantastic landlord!
Real ales! Locally sourced food imaginatively served and prepared!
Lovely decor!
Landlord even fetched his wrench from his own car to help us out as we needed to check some loose wheel nuts!
Wish this place was nearer to where we live!

“Fairly average pub-a little over priced”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2013

It is in a lovely location however the pub is usually crammed with retired business type folk and never locals owing to the high menu prices.
We were fortunate enough to have a lovely evening weatherwise to be able to sit outside and enjoy a late summer sunset however not a great deal of people eat here mid-week as they do tend to be high end in the price bracket for food and beverages.
The food when it came was tasty but very over priced for what it actually was, portions rather meagre too.
They do sell a few decent beers, but the staff although efficient tend to prefer to fuss over the retired business folk rather than the odd group that pop in, by chance( maybe for the tips). We had the impression that they would have preferred us to sit inside as it may have been a bit too much trouble to deliver our food outside. We insisted on an outside table because it was such a rare treat to have a late summer sunny evening. We would not rush back in future.
