We spent a day here in the absolute pouring rain. Our camping holiday had come to a disastrous end, and we needed something to do before we headed off to find a b&b. So glad we stumbled upon Dolaucothi. We really enjoyed the tour. The guide was interesting and did a fab job of capturing our interest. The other exhibits were interesting to see and the cafe was lovely, if a little small and pricey. Overall, a good day out.

we took a slight detour on our way home from holiday to visit this place.
the tour of the mine was really good, we had a great tour guide. my children 3, 10, 11 ,15 all enjoyed themselves.
if you go there with a young child, be warned, we went on an hour tour, the guide can stand in the same place at talk to the group for 10mins a time, you cant let your child's hand go because it is dangerous, so your child will have to stand in the same spot. the rest of the people on tour cant hear the guide if your child is even just general talking, without any objection to standing in the same spot for time after time. that was the worse bit for me as i have a recently turned 3yrs old, and every-time he made a noise a lady in the group kept giving us a terrible look.
the staff were great and really friendly
we liked the mines
£18 for all of us to get in :)

Wanted something to do for a couple of hours before driving home. An excellent tour round the mines - was much more than we were expecting - thanks.

Set in a beautiful location, this intimate and friendly attraction really surprised us! For only £6 for adults, we did both Victorian and Roman mine tours and explored a little of the area, if anything i wish we had got there earlier to do some of the trails.
The guides and staff were really informative, helpful and hospitable. We loved the Indianna Jones climb though a section of the Roman mine shaft connected to the Victorian mine tour, it really gave you a direct sence of connection with the history and its great that this is still possible and that nanny state hasnt closed this bit!
The main photo on here, with the green shacks, really doesnt do the place justice! The setting is stunning and the tours engaging and informative.

We chose the Roman Tour and our guide was fantastic. You get to go through real Roman mine tunnels. At 10:30 there was a choice between Roman & Victorian tours and they seemed to run every hour (on the half hour). I suggest you ring ahead if you want a particular tour.
The whole site is beautiful. A lovely place to scramble around and have a picnic. It is an SSSI and is teamining with life.
After our tour we enjoyed panning for gold. Found lots of "fools gold" BUT we also found one tiny fleck of real gold...we had a very happy son!
