We went not really sure what to expect, but it was a great afternoon out. The tour was very interesting and there was plenty to see in and out of the mine. There is a shed dedicated to kids games and there was also panning for gold (not real gold of course - the place hasn't been mined since the 1930s).the cafe was good for cake and coffee and the shop with appropriate souvenirs. Lastly the staff were great, very knowledgeable, especially sandra, who has 17 years experience working at the site, and gave us a very informative and fun tour.

“There is gold in them there hills!”

This attracttion is not your normal National Trust property but certainly an interesting one.

We were strapped into underground gear - helmets/lights and Welles and given an excellent and knowledgable tour of the top cave. The tour combines a mix of historical and archeology information and ends back in the courtyard where you can pan for gold -' and yes there really is gold to be found. The is also an interpretative area, cafe and shop.

“Great Fun”

Went on an out of season trip so had the tour to ourselves staff very knowledgeable and helpful. This tour is not for all as it involves entering the mines and there are some climbs and steps. If you get the chance do pan for some Gold.

“Excellent day out - something completely different”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2011

Arrived in the rain at noon and left at closing time at 5pm, so plenty to keep you occupied, mind you we did both the Roman and Victorian tours, both about an hour, and the Victorian being the slightly shorter but more underground, and involving an underground scramble to get out (easier alternative available) which even my 6 year old enjoyed, and shouldn't be missed.

Spent ages gold panning too. Ok - any reasonably knowledgable person will know that Welsh gold is about as rare and valuable as rocking horse droppings. So what, this is something completely different and well worth the trip.

It's well signposted from the local B roads and the postcode in the SatNav takes you right there.
