“We loved Bequia”
Reviewed March 1, 2013 via mobile

Bequia is a great island. We loved the landscape, Port Elizabeth and the local people. We stayed at the Bequia Beach Hotel for 10 days in a beach front room. The room was spacious, very well presented and decorated. Balcony overlooking the beach. Could not have been better. We stayed on a half board basis with drinks, but the hotels interpretation of that basis differed from ours. Half board with drinks means continental breakfast with two courses of either lunch or dinner. Drinks does not include international brands or wine, except house wines. We only found this out halfway through the holiday. To the credit of the hotel they agreed to waive the costs we had incurred prior to us becoming aware of their rules. Breakfast is a very limited continental offerring and you have to pay for the hot options. As we dined in the restaurant most evenings we found the menu a little limited. The lobster feat is wrongly described. Generally the staff were efficient and friendly. Beach bar service could be improved.
No need to hire a car. There are plenty of local taxis.
Having said all of the above we enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel to others.

Stayed in a two bed villa with family Mid February 2013 for 2 weeks. At the risk of repeating the last few reviews we could find no faults with this hotel. The staff were really friendly and very efficient. Housekeeper (Agneta) was exceptionally good, kept the rooms immaculate, chatted at length to us about the island and even bought us gifts when she went to St Vincent for the day! Beds were really comfortable. Barstaff Kysran, Ozan, Collin and Jefferson were a real laugh, seemed to know every drink we asked for (although this was mostly Hairoun Beers and lime squashes!). The management team and reception staff were really on the ball with nothing being too much trouble. The villa was lovely with far more amenities than you would expect on a small carribean island. The large pool was beautiful and Will, the attendant, was always around to sort out towels, mattresses, fetch drinks etc. We hired a car which, although not really necessary, ensured we weren't waiting around for taxis. On this side of the island there is not much to do (perfect!) but it is only a 5 minute drive to Lower Bay, 10 minutes to Port Elizabeth. We did not eat that much in the hotel because we wanted to try out all the other restaurants on the island, but when we did the food was great and no more expensive than many other places. The serving staff were excellent. We would definitely hope to come back to Bequia again, and unless we decided to rent a villa, would not consider staying anywhere else. Dont be put off by some of the earlier reviews when there was construction work going on. This is completely finished now with no plans for future work.
We absolutely loved it!

Room Tip: The 2 bed villas were perfect for families but would also work well for 2 couples. Aircon worked wel...

Just returned after a fortnight staying at this WONDERFUL hotel. Perfectly situated in a beautiful small bay, this is the perfect place to relax completely and enjoy 'Bequia time'.
Although our room was situated at the top of the hill we soon got used to the 62 steps needed to reach it and were rewarded with the best view in the hotel. The room was beautifully furnished with an exceedingly comfortable bed and wonderful recliners on the large balcony. Fresh Moulton Brown toiletries every day, as well as a regularly filled ice bucket and bottled water in the room.

The Swedish chef is a master-probably the best restaurant on Bequia. The service was excellent at all times, all staff having been trained to a very high standard.

The owner, Bengst , is a very hands-on manager, meeting the needs of every guest with quiet and kind efficiency. The entire staff were very friendly and helpful- always smiling.
On leaving the hotel for our return journey home (with very heavy hearts), the entire senior management team were there to see us off and to wish us a safe trip back.
Can't wait to return again next year!

The Bequia Beach is in a perfect beach location on Bequia. The rooms are magnificent and the food excellent. The continental breakfast is "undersold" in the hotel descriptions, being a perfect spread to start a day in the Caribbean. Everything about this small hotel is first class, but there is one thing that is world class, that's the management and staff. I've never known the staff at any hotel try so hard to make your stay perfect.

This recently completed hotel will not be a secret for long, when a British weekend colour supplement inevitably runs one of their perennial articles on the 'Top Ten New Caribbean Getaways' things I feel may change for this deserving tremendous new hideaway. We were lucky enough to experience BBH only a quarter full, lovely for us but I'm sure financially challenging for the Swedish private owner Bengt Mortstedt, whose attention to detail in ALL departments and vision for the perfect place to relax is to be commended. The location, the beach, the rooms, the dining, the food, the staff (so very helpful and always with a sincere smile on their faces) are all great. We had two weeks of self-indulgent hedonism at BBH (even more satisfying when you know there was 10 cm of snow on the ground back home). We hope to return one day and selfishly find that things are still the same (the ultimate challenge for a growing hotel) when all 70 rooms are likely to be full due to the secret being 'out of the bag'. It would be great to pick up exactly where we left off - lazing in a peaceful paradise that felt like an intimate boutique hotel.

Room Tip: A second floor Ocean View Suite (inland from the sea) would be my tip, it'll give you great view...

A beatifully finished Hotel. (Construction for last few years) On beach, superb Swedish chef plus two trainees winter / spring 2013. Staff were excellent, and management is tip top. January temperature superb; came back very brown.
Only exciting point for those with nervous disposition is flight in; as a pilot, I loved it.

Room Tip: I was lucky to have beach side room; could walk from balcony out to the beach. Cottages with pools...

This is a small, attractive beachside hotel with good facilities and an excellent restaurant. I must admit, when we first looked around we weren't sure it was "for us" as we usually like to stay in places with heaps of character. But over the five days we came to really like the hotel, and we would definitely go back. The staff are friendly and very efficient and the management are always around and very "hands on". Our only niggle was the internet connection which was very poor during our stay. But the hotel manager said it was being repaired, so this shouldn't be a problem for others. (if the internet is vital for you, do check before booking)Because they were three of us we stayed in a villa which had its own plunge pool, though we mainly used the huge hotel pool if we wanted to cool off. If there were just two of you I would suggest the rooms with a sea view would be the best bet. There is another block overlooking the gardens but it's at the back of the property...and the view over the bay is just so lovely it would be a shame to miss out. The gardens are colourful, with the lawns mowed by a little herd of goats (!) and the buildings are all prettily painted in seaside colours. There are plenty of places to park your sunbed - by the pool, in the garden, under a tree, or looking out to sea - and we thought the beach was the best on the island. There's a good stretch of sand and the waves are pretty gentle compared with Lower Bay, and certainly gentler than anything on the Atlantic side. We ate in the restaurant twice, and both times the food was really good and we thought the atmosphere was great. Recommend the buffet bbq when they arrange live music. Other restaurants we'd recommend would be Nando's (nothing to do with the famous chain) and L'Auberge. We also stayed at a countryside plantation house, The Old Fort, for the first few days of our stay on the island, and this was definitely a great "experience", a place full of character with fabulous views, but without the element of luxury you get from a full-on hotel. So if youre undecided I'd recommend a two-centre stay. If money is no object, you could try Firefly as your plantation house experience, which offers amazing rooms (a class above everything else on the island). We looked at Sugar Reef, too, which offers a very good deal, gorgeous Caribbean-style four-poster beds in The French House, but the pool is small and at the back, though if you're not interested in a pool they do have some new and beautiful rooms on the beach. See my other reviews - hope they're helpful,

Room Tip: We liked our two-bedroom villa, but the villas don't look out over the beach, so if that's a...
