Had a nap from the hotel with all the local sites on it. Went on a morning walk for about an hour and a half and we were able to seem the majority of the famous local interests during our walk. We all carefully as the locals are driving fast and there are no sidewalks for pedestrians. Pretty town, cute houses, friendly locals.

This was my first trip to Harbour Island and the experience was quite unexpected. I thought I was going to experience the quiet, serene island charm, as was the case with the other Eleuthera settlements. I received the shock of my life with the congestion, hustle, and bustle. It was unexpected and I'm still wheeling from it. For the tourist who wants an island-city experience, this is the place. For peace and quiet, maybe not

Dunmore Town on Harbour Island is relatively clean, safe, friendly, with several hidden charms that beg to be explored. There are secure marinas and resorts such as Valentines and Romora Bay. There are upscale restaurants and local bars with cold Kalik and Sands beer. Conch fritters are usually very good with an absence of the usually heavy bread filling. Local lobsters are very tasty and not usually overlooked. This is a working community without the usual plethora of junky tourist shops. Local women make some good straw creations but the manufactured wood and sea shell garbage is thankfully missing.
I would recommend Valentines and Romora Bay but have not yet checked out Harbour Island Club & Marina.
The Pink Sands Beach on the north side is great. A golf cart is the way to get around but walking is also OK. I did not see many bicycles and the narrow streets might make this form of transport problematic. We rented from Johnson's Rentals and were very pleased with the cart, service, and conditions.
For boaters, families, and a romantic getaway, Dunmore Town is a great choice.

Golf carts are a-plenty here. It seems that they are the preferred mode of transportation on island and there ain't nothing wrong with that considering the town and island are not too large. Some history here, a bit of shopping and more than a few restaurant options. The famous beach is on the Atlantic side of town and the small streets are fun to explore on foot or on cart. Only drawback would be high pricing of high-end hotels, some restaurants.and the necessity to rent a beach umbrella for lack of beach shade. Definitely part of the Eleuthera experience though. Just a $5 each way &10 minute ferry ride each way to/fro the mainland. The carts are well worth the rental fee.

We went with a relative who's a history nut. I guess if you're like him, you might enjoy it.
12 bucks to see a house of the time with a guided tour about Wilson who really didn't spend much time there.
