Thank you for a lovely review, I am pleased you had an enjoyable stay with Hunters Lodge. I look forward to welcoming you back again soon.
Kind regards, Paul.
We arrived early afternoon to this little gem of a site, on entering off the road there was a telephone number to ring , we were greeted by the owner and told where we could park and choose our pitch, the hardstanding for our motorhome was just perfect
Quiet and in a lovely valley setting, After paying our fee for the 2 nites we were giving information on where to eat , cycle paths etc ,
overall the owner has a lovely site in a great setting
in starcross itself theres not a lot to do or look at , but Dawlish is only 4 miles away
Thank you for your fantastic review. It's great to hear you had a lovely stay and made the most of our location which is idea for exploring the local area. We hope you return again soon. Kind regards, Paul
I really shouldn't do a review because we may not be able to come back if everyone books :)
Lovely site run by a friendly but not invasive owner . Shown all the amenities when we arrived and told of the dog walk at the back that leads into the lane for the village .
Lovely and clean , short grass - didn't try the shower or loos as we used our own .
Only down side was the very noisy road , the stream that was very overgrown and could do with some TLC and the very noisy campers on our last day . The hand standing had huge issues when pitching the awning , 2 inches of cement at the side meant you can't put pegs in ( could be solved by bringing the sides out with gravel for caravan tyres )
Very pricey for a basic site but worth it if you love the Dawlish area
An amazing stay! Due to it being the weekend of Radio one's big weekend we were expecting a busy and cramped camping experience. How wrong we were. The owner didn't over book the campsite at all. We had plenty of space and beautiful views. Although some of the pitches are slightly sloping we managed to find a flat area near a tree. The toilets were spotless (only downside was the shower curtain could have been a little bigger as the floor got very wet). The facilities are basic so don't go here expecting luxury. However it is what I think a proper campsite should be, simple with amazing views of the countryside. You can buy eggs from the chickens on the site (the most free range eggs you will find).
The owner is very friendly and makes you feel very welcome. Overall a lovely place.
Wow, what a beautiful camp site. It was fantastically maintained and the surrounding area was beautiful! A few nice pubs close by, so enough to keep you entertained.
The owner was very friendly and accommodating, would recommend staying here to anyone! The bad side was £1 for showers for 7 minutes, and the shower itself seeming to only kick out hot water for 3 of those 7 minutes.
Bring a frisbee/football, he has a lot of land to keep you entertained.. and a beautiful oak tree which would be perfect to sit around while having a BBQ.
It has 4G signal for O2 and EE.
This is a small C&C Certified site. Our sat-nav is old and did not have the address provided by the Hunters Lodge website; however it was not needed as the directions were sufficient. Arriving mid-day, we were greeted by the landlord, given a clear description of the property and facilities, and left to settle in.
We chose a well grassed area close to the additional parking area. Located below a reasonably well used road (but screen by trees and bush) it was well serviced with both electricity and drinking water. We had no problem with noise, but others close entrance of the site may have not been so lucky. The ground was wet but not unduly sticky. Note: The proprietors are in the process of building hardstanding sites - in another part of the site that are well protected from the elements and hidden from the road.
This is a tidy property, complete with a large hen-run, playing picnic area and a fishing lake. The toilet/shower block is simple, clean though showers will cost £1 for seven minutes. There is a well set-up disposal area with EDP and wastewater and recycling/refuse sections. There are lots of helpful notices posted around areas of the site.
There is a quiet lane on the back of the property that can be used as either a shortcut to the bus-stop/township etc or to exercise your dog (if you have one).
We chose Starcross as it is well serviced by train, bus and ferry which allowed us to get out to Exmouth, Dawlish and other areas. There are a number of good pubs in Cockwood and Starcross (less than a mile walk) and Dawlish used to have a very good pub-crawl.
