Me and my boyfriend stayed a couple of nights at this hotel at the end of February, as a groupon deal. When we booked on the phone we upgraded to the sea view room with four poster bed and bath, and extra 20 per couple. however, on arrival we were told that room was already booked, and therefore couldn't have the four poster and bath that we had booked, even though we had booked it. so a little disappointed. However the sea view was lovely, and the bed was very comfortable.
If your expecting luxurious 5* retreat, this isn't it. We would say it's more a 3*, and it's a little rough round the edges. We used the small swimming pool and 'leisure' facilities, of which there was a hole in the roof over the pool being covered by a sheet of tarpaulin(!) that was leaking, due to being completely full of rain water.. and looked like it could fall into the pool at any point!
The wifi also only works if you are sat near to the reception!

Good points:
The location is beautiful, and good walks to be had, we walked for miles and the constant sea view blew out a lot of cobwebs, and was beautiful.
The food was great, with huge portions. The service is very quick and friendly and then moving to the lounge for coffee and drinks is lovely. We enjoyed a bottle of wine and picked from the selection of board games, so a very chilled atmosphere.
All in all this was a nice few days, it wasn't what we expected, and probably won't return, but the staff do their best and are very friendly.

We have just spent a fabulous weekend at The Whitsand Bay Hotel. The food was exceptional ,the hotel spotless and the beds extremely comfortable. The staff are welcoming and nothing seemed to be to much trouble. The added bonus is that it is dog friendly too.
The hotel itself is full of character and has a warm and friendly feel to it.
Its a little gem that we are so pleased to have found...A true secret hideaway ..( although now its not so secret!! )
I will definatley be returning....
Thank you to the Phillips family and all the staff...

On a bright day amidst recent wet and stormy days we went to the small Port Wrinkle harbour for some fresh air and to inspect the storm damage to the sea wall. I must say that we found the hotel welcoming for a rather late lunch and we were offered a dining room 2 or 3 course meal with several choices or bar snacks. The dining room looked inviting and comfortable with sun streaming in through the windows overlooking the bay and catching the pristine white table cloths. The waiting staff were pleasant and efficient. We chose to eat there - the two courses for £10 option. I cannot say that the chicken liver parfait starter was the best I had ever had but it was well presented and a sizeable portion with salad, The desert we had was apple crumble with custard (me) and cream (husband) again the portions were large and satisfying. Complementary coffee and tea served in the pleasant lounge with old style comfortable settees and chairs, could have made us discard ideas of a short walk and remain to relax. We found the steps up to the hotel from the road up from the harbour very useful coming back from our walk to our car which we had left in the hotel car park.
The small harbour near the now converted, old pilchard palace was interesting following the recent storms because the sea wall had been damaged and an amazing hole had developed in it leaving a single row of stones as a 'bridge' above the hole.

Room Tip: We did not stay overnight so have no advice to offer except look at other guests comments here some...

A stunning hotel. On arrival I said to my companion that it reminded me of an Agatha Christie murder mystery location :-) ....after meeting the friendly staff at the check in desk I immediately felt relaxed and soaked up the warm cosy atmosphere. The room was twin and everything that we needed was provided, the bed was extremely comfortable and the duvet was like sleeping in a hug. The cleanliness of the hotel was top notch even for the slightly OCD me. I do not have enough adjectives to describe the food.....I think the fact that I felt like Id died and gone to heaven says it all! The footpath down to the beach opened up to a wonderful unspoiled beach which worked out well for a interesting beach walk and beautiful quiet location for a mindful meditation. The swimming pool was like getting into a bath and the steam room was a wonderful relaxing experience after a few lengths. Will I go again? Try and stop me!

Room Tip: Our room was at the back of the hotel and was quiet and cosy.

We have just returned from a friends birthday celebration at the Whitsand bay hotel where our friends booked out the hotel from Friday to Sunday.
The hotel and it's staff offered a fantastic break and catered for all ours and Julie the birthday girls needs and nothing was ever a problem to any one working there. So thanks and well done to all - Tracey, the owner, Justine and the guys behind the bar, thumbs up!!
Our room, no. 1 was clean, spacious with a great sea view and had all we needed.
The food - all weekend was, - faultless, delicious, plentiful & worthy of being in a classy restaurant
& great value too- the breakfast was better than any big chain hotel, fresh with a decent choice & enough to keep you going till the afternoon.
We made use of the small but adequate gym, the decent pool , sauna & steam room were also great ( to try and aid the hangovers!!)
We took a coastal walk on Saturday from right outside the hotel which was a 5 mile round trip and lovely on a sunny, fresh day.
So all in all, great staff , owners, food, location & value-
As someone else said, if you want a sterile, faceless chain type hotel go elsewhere-
If you want a family owned & character hotel that's a bit quirky go here, you'll love it!
Thanks Tracy
