Having been for Sunday lunch at The Countryman's Inn a few years ago we were excited to find a groupon for 4 x 3 course Sunday lunches for just £32.95. On our last visit our food was amazing; homemade Yorkshire puds, succulent beef and delicious gravy. Unfortunately the same couldn't be said for our visit today. Our tiny starters were lukewarm and the ciabatta was in fact 2 miniscule slices of strange sweet hard toast which did nothing to enhance the bland garlic mushrooms. The lamb and beef was dry and fatty and I fear, reheated in the microwave judging by the numerous pings we heard going off from the kitchen. The desserts were probably the best course of the three but I have a feeling most of them were bought in and not homemade, much like the Yorkshire puddings which tasted suspiciously like Aunt Bessie's!
It was all edible but not particularly enjoyable and very disappointing as we were expecting a wonderful meal like the last time. All in all, we're just glad we didn't pay full price and we definitely won't be visiting again.

Looking at the positive reviews below we made the Countryman Inn our choice of Sunday lunch on 13th April 2014. This was our first visit to the Countryman for Sunday Lunch, unfortunately it will be our last. The menu was lovely with wide variety and had our hopes riding high. However, the starters were tiny, The mushrooms in cream and brandy portion was tiny, if their were four sliced buttoned mushrooms within the dish, I am being generous. The Paté chosen by another of our party was also a tiny portion. The soup portion was a normal sized portion. The main meat courses as they arrived looked lovely, two of us ordered the chicken stuffed with sage and onion, wrapped in bacon, whilst the others of us ordered roast beef. These meals arrived as sufficiently sized meals, however they were warm, not hot, for five us us we were offered one small bowl of mixed veg and one small bowl of mashed potatoes. To give the company their due,
when we asked for more vegetables, we were given "extra" veg by our waitress. When it came to paying the bill, our bar bill was extra-ordinary, £15.00 for two pints of Peroni, one J2O, one lime and soda and one lemonade. There are also no disabled toilet facilities within the restaurant, which unfortunately was the final straw to our experience within the Countryman.

they have a new chef, the waiter was so kind and thoughtful even when we asked for something not on the menu the food was really good, its our local so we eat there a lot. the landlord second to none so kind and helpful, would recommend a visit. a really homely and friendly pub.

Friendly, warm and inviting atmosphere with an open fire making the place really cosy & traditional. We had a meal here and it was excellent! Well presented with great service, we would highly recommend it. Tony the Landlord is a real character & makes you feel right at home from the moment you set foot in the place. A real gem & well worth a visit or two! Try the pork medallions on the menu! Beautiful! We will be visiting again!

Me and my partner had the fillet steak and it was absolutely wonderful. Staff were friendly and welcoming and atmosphere was warm & inviting. Would definitely come again.
