“Going downhill”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 22, 2013 via mobile

Recently held a club bowling event here, something we have done for the past few years. In previous years the food has been reasonably priced and the choice of beers also pretty good but unfortunately this year was a shocker.
On the plus side the weather was ideal for bowling and the company was as good as ever. However, the beer, whilst plentiful, was not kept we'll although this was vastly better than the food: £15 per head for a burger, a sausage and a piece of chicken with accompaniments of cold rice, chips, coleslaw and a soggy bun; hardly offer of the week particularly considering it was served lukewarm.
We will be holding another bowling event next year but certainly not at the Eagle and Child. Nor will any of us be returning for any other fare in the foreseeable future.

“My favourite pub in Lancashire”

We travel regularly from Bolton for Sunday lunch at the Eagle and have never been disappointed by either the atmosphere, the staff or the food. Would recommend it to anyone.

“Just about good enough...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2013

We had friends through and decided, quite late on a Sunday afternoon, to eat out so rang ahead to ensure we would have a table. When we arrived we where sat in a bit of an anti room which has 4 tables but is devoid of any atmosphere, hey ho, and then where served by (sorry) a seemingly stressed and hurried waitress (not my problem - smile) and provided with food about which one would not complain but, at the slightly elevated prices, would expect better. we will give it another go.

“Reliable as ever”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2013

Have eaten out here on a number of occasions and the food, service and atmosphere have always been great. It can be very busy so best avoid if you are looking for a quiet evening at the weekend.

“Great food and beautiful surroundings.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2013 via mobile

We visited on a hot Saturday afternoon and visited the farm shop next door to stick up on fantastic rare breed pork pies, cheeses, local asparagus and tomatoes. The pub kindly refrigerated these for us so we could have a few drinks in the beer garden which was very busy and has stunning views. Our meals were excellent, and included baby squid, pigeon and black pudding and chilli fillet steak with spaghetti. The almond and raspberry frangipani tart and black currant and liquorice ice cream was fantastic. Service from our waitress and the manager was excellent and even when we returned a steak as it was overdone it came back with freshly cooked pasta and veg. We will definitely return.
