“Never disappointed yet”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2012

We visit the Eagle and Child once a month or so & have always enjoyed the food there, good quality, well cooked and presented. However, I must agree with a previous reviewer about the smelly dog. Whether it was the same one or not I do not know but we were eating near to the bar when it lay down beside it's owner who was perched on a bar stool and I was glad we had nearly finished our meal! In future I will make sure we are not seated close to the bar - otherwise a great pub.

“Don't ever change Eagle & Child, I like you 'just as you are'...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2012 via mobile

This cosy pub is everything a country watering hole should be. It's friendly and welcoming to all (including children and dogs) with a superb selection of ales and fine wines, great food and all in a wonderfully rustic and original setting. If you seek a clinical mass produced dining experience that makes you feel like you're sat in homebase then please keep driving, as your choices are sadly a plenty in the uk. This pub is a rare and special 'one of a kind' that cares as much for its local clientele (and their dogs) as it does for any less frequent visitor. I for one appreciate that pubs like this are in sad decline - please don't ever change!

“Loved it!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 24, 2012

This has been my second visit to Eagle & Child and i look forward to visiting again, the menu has changed twice and always has something exciting on offer, the service is great and the pub has a friendly atmosphere to it. Recommend to anyone looking for a nice lunch/dinner at the weekend whilst out and about!

“A SMELLY DOG”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2012

We called at The Eagle and Child this evening for a drink. There were very few people eating , usually it is quite busy, and about a dozen people having a drink. Then a very old dog wandered around the restaurant and pub. It was limping, and it kept coming up to our table. The dog absolutely stank. The smell was so bad that we finished our drinks and left. We had to climb past two other dogs in the doorway. I have no idea who the old smelly dog belonged to, maybe it was the pub dog, but the smell was very strong and offensive. I would NEVER eat at a place that allowed dogs to roam around the tables bothering the customers. AND if the dog does belong to the pub then get it bathed and keep it away from the diners!!!
