“Good facilities but not 5 star”
Reviewed April 10, 2013 via mobile

We booked this break at easter as our normal a commodity on was booked. What is good is the facilities available, indoor swimming pool, horse riding (Amy was very patient and accommodating) tennis, playroom and gym. The accommodation however is basic, cramped every cottage is on top of each other. No privacy at all! The owner is also very gruff not helpful at all. We had three small children and this location is not so good as all of the attractions are at least 40 mins away with the majority being over an hour away. Don't book this thinking that it will be on a par with other high end accommodation.

We visited Broomhill twice in 2012, one in late August and as we loved it so much we booked again for a fabulously relaxing New Year break. I used to visit Broomhill as a child for my summer holidays so hadn't been there for 25 years and it is great to see my children having the same magical time that I remember having there as a child.

The cottages are excellent, very clean with comfortable beds & well equipped - there really is everything you need for a self catering holiday. However if there is anything you feel you need, mention it to the owner Alan and if he can accommodate it he will. One day into our summer holiday we realised we needed a blackout blind for the kids (2&5) and a bed guard as we decided to try our 2 yr old in a bed rather than the travel cot provided. They were with us within an hour of asking. Baby monitors etc can also be provided so its great not having to pack those extras.

In the summer we stayed in Sandpiper, a 3 bed cottage with hot tub which was spacious and lovely & quiet at the far end of the grounds. At New Year we stayed in Grebe as it was very close to the indoor pool and it was smaller and cosier - great for that time of year and decorated with a Christmas tree.

Broomhill is lovely in the summer with lots of outdoor space and play areas, but we had an equally great time in winter. We took waterproof suits for the kids and they loved being outside playing - to them the wet slide just made it faster and it didn't matter if they got filthy. They both did horse riding on both visits (as did I) and spent most afternoons in the indoor pool which we generally had to ourselves! The indoor playroom and games room were an added bonus and great value as the pool table etc are free. Even the washing machines and dryers in the laundry are complimentary.

We used the bar in the early evenings and the kids were welcomed and enjoyed playing the jigsaws and games provided. My daughter even had the owner Alan playing her games, though I think he may remove "dancing queen" from the juke box before she returns again!! On New Years Eve everyone is invited into the Manor House for a champagne reception and nibbles served by Alan and Linda. The children are invited too and well looked after by the hosts twins with lots of games and snacks.

I had a lovely relaxing massage while I was there and in the summer my husband and son (16) had surfing lessons at Sandymouth beach which they loved. So while Broomhill itself isn't geared towards teenagers there's lots they can do locally and come back to Broomhill as a relaxing base.

We used to do breaks at Centre Parcs but its so expensive and busy in school holidays that its unlikely we'll use it again. We much prefer the more personal touch, love the fact that Broomhill is quiet and much better value for money! Recommend it for all seasons and look forward to going back.

We have been going to Broomhill Manor every year for the last 12 years with our two girls, now aged 13 and 14. We do go on other holidays too, but our family likes Broomhill Manor best of all - and that includes trips to Florida and various European destinations. We love the swimming pools and the stables and the fact that we can take our dog with us. We know we can have a very chilled-out, relaxed time there together as a family. We have visited with relatives in the past too - being able to stay in separate cottages is important to us. We have booked again for 2013 and can't wait

Room Tip: Choose one with a hot tub if you can

We have just returned from a weeks holiday at Broomhill. We have had a lovely time. The apartment was very clean and equiped with everything we needed. The facilities on site were very good, great indoor pool, jacuzzi and gym. Also enjoyed horseriding on site an a very relaxing massage. Alan and Linda made us very welcome. Great location for walking part of the south west coast path as well as long sandy beaches and beautiful cliffs.

We have just enjoyed our 3rd holiday at Broomhill Manor and each time our family have enjoyed it more. We have never had a bad holiday or experience on any of our trips and we have already booked for next year to beat the rush for the excellent accommodation. The children enjoyed all of the onsite fun including archery, tennis, horse riding, swimming out door or inside, table tennis, pool, trampolining, snooker, bike riding and generally playing in the extensive and safe grounds of the manor. They enjoyed going to a four different beaches that can be reached either by car or two of them on foot if you fancy a short walk through the countryside into Bude close by. There are good shopping facilities nearby to stock up your kitchen and we enjoyed eating both out and in. The owners will really welcoming and helpful and when asked will always help you. The people on the site were all friendly and the children made friends and played together but if you want to be alone it’s no problem. The site is very quiet at day or night and you can enjoy the rest and sleep as required.

Room Tip: Book early for next year - we have!

However, you have always provided us with exactly what we need to be able to relax and have a wonderful family holiday. We can't wait to come back again next year with our friends!

We went to broom hill as it's listed as a four to five star. - personally I would say it has been given too many stars! It cost £1800 for a 3 bed cottage in august. The cottages are really basic. Your towels aren't changed for a whole week! No dressing gowns (normally would get these in a five star) two tea towels to last all week. Outdoor pool looks like it needs a good clean - there's a nice scum Mark around the top which would probably come off with a good jet wash. The indoor swimming pool is good but the changing rooms have seen better days - the toilet blind even has snails living on it. £10 for a 15 minute pony walk. You are charged for snooker table etc.
I felt like the whole place was a bit tired looking but it wouldn't take much to clean it up a little. Ie - the kids play house needs a serious paint up. There's summer houses in the gardens which are full of cobwebs, dirty chairs, dirty windows - you wouldn't bother sitting in them! There's a lovely pond with a bridge that leads to .....overgrown Weeds. The cottages are a bit dated. There's a communal washing machine room. No ironing board and iron in each cottage - you have to borrow them from the communal washing room. Oh the pillows - my goodness, they really really need to buy new pillows, it's like sleeping on a sack of old potatoes!
On the plus side there's a kids play room, a games room, stables on site and a short drive to bude beach. Personally I wouldn't stay again and you can get better places for cheaper.
