“Amazing adventure experience for the family”
Reviewed January 10, 2014

We have just spent 2 nights at the Blue Duck Lodge and it was superb! Our 2 older kids just loved the chance to explore, go biking, kayaking & jet boating. The lodge was very comfortable and designed perfectly in a rustic style to fit in with the surroundings. The views are breathtaking and Dan & his team made us so welcome...the perfect NZ secret escape!

What a wonderful gem we found when we came to the blue duck station. It truly is off the beaten track, but is so worth making the effort to head their way.

Great team of people making a valuable difference to NZ in maintaining how it should remain. It was a pleasure to stay there knowing you're helping the conservation of the beautiful country.

The facilities are brilliant- even with a honeymoon room! Great kitchen, two separate blocks- ours had a real homely feel and even had a wood fire which was wonderful.

Hard to believe but they even had wifi .. For a small price but it is a great excuse to get away from it all an enjoy some of the great home cooked food, and the amazing activities on offer. We took a walk to the waterfall and despite there being a real tropical downpour, it was worth it!

Book here and you won't regret it :)

Blue duck lodge was such a surprise! It's very isolated in the middle of the bush, but everyone's so friendly, there's loads to do and the accomodation was fantastic. We stayed in the Warrior lodge in a room with 3 bunk beds. The kitchen was well equipped with an oven and all other utensils and there was a spacious living room with a cosy fire and comfy sofas- great for socialising in the evening. For people not wanting to cook the hostel food is delicious, Whilst we were there members of our group went horse-riding, clay pidgeon shooting and goat hunting; to save money we went on an easy but pretty walk to a nearby waterfall. Overall a lovely place to say, really off the beaten track, I recommend staying at least two nights to really appreciate it!

What a great place to stay while you are in New Zealand! Truly off the beaten track, you get to see lush, unspoiled countryside, and spend your time in the fresh air, taking part in the numerous activities on offer. Had really friendly, informative, enthusiastic staff, and we had a delicious goat curry and rice followed by sticky date pudding in the evening for less than $20. Couldn't recommend this place enough!

Hi there, thank you very much for the lovely feedback and taking the time to write a review (this goes to our other reviewers too). We love our little piece of paradise and can think of no better way to share it than invite people to stay! We endeavor to look after our environment, flora and fauna whilst showing people around and if you leave happy we are happy! Many thanks, the Blue Duck team.

Definitely in the middle of nowhere but what a scenery ! Super friendly, super clean, super comfy and plenty of activities to do (check other reviews). Plenty of space if you want to do your own cooking and amazing chef if you don't want to. Plus Blue Duck station does loads of projects to support the protection of blue ducks !

It's a lodge appearing in the middle of nowhere. And i am glad we are here! there's various activities to do, clay bird shooting, horse trekking, goat hunting etc..

The place itself is surrounded by nature, and the rooms are really clean. The host are helpful and friendly.

We did the horse trekking activity with Chad and totally enjoyed it. Definately a must-do here in blue duck station.

It's a pity we do not have the time to stay longer there.

Actually stayed quite a while ago at Blue Duck Lodge with my Trek New Zealand group and forgot to review.
My mum and I had never seen anything quite like Blue Duck! They have the most perfect combination of business with a purpose that we've ever seen. They are really honest people with good hearts who want to save their beautiful environment. We stayed in some cosy clean dorm rooms, had a lovely group meal and had an excellent and informative tour of the area.
My mum has even considered going back and volunteering for them for a few months!
