Monte Casone
Reviewed October 17, 2013

We just spent three nights at monte casone in the stand alone villa. We have two young children, ages 8 and 4 and wanted to ensure we had plenty of space and no chance to bother others. We had a magnificent time. The villa was beautifully restored with amazing attention to details. We reduced the number of sights we wanted to see in Tuscany just so we could stay close to home. There are so many favorites for us - long runs on the country roads, sending the kids outside to play and discover the local flora and fauna, the incredible views enjoyed with Tuscan wine. Matthieu and Elizabeth and their charming kids were a highlight for us. We will do our best to be back within the year as nothing describes "perfect in Italy" better than here.

Monte Casone sits alone at the top of a Tuscan hill just outside the small village of Ghizzano. This establishment is run by a charming young family that has paid painstaking attention to every single detail. Although the large apartments are thoroughly modern and brand new (with fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, satellite TV, etc.) they have been architecturally designed with the traditional Tuscan style in mind. It’s the perfect mix of modern comforts and authentic feel. Ours was squeaky-clean and cooled by a geothermic system that also provides heat in the winter months. (Note that the entire complex is apparently ‘’zero impact’’ from an ecological perspective.)

Monte Casone offers beautiful views of the surrounding Tuscan hill country, and they are particularly breathtaking at sunset in the large heated infinity pool that sits on the western side of the property. Guests also have their own private patio for dining al fresco with, of course, views of the hills. We also had the options of having fresh pastries delivered to our doorstep in the early morning by a local baker, or having a Tuscan cook from the town prepare and serve meals for us.

This place is within easy striking distance of most of the places you want to visit in this part of Italy – generally an hour or even less from Florence, Pisa, San Gimignano, Siena, etc. As these popular places tend to have a lot of tourist hustle and bustle (and even craziness in the summer), at the end of a busy hectic day it was awesome to be able to retire to Monte Casone which was like a haven of peaceful tranquillity.

With respect to accommodation, staying here was by far the highlight of our trip to Italy.

We have just returned from a fantastic 2 week stay at Monte Casone
We are a family of 4 with 2 teenage daughters and stayed in Leccino which was beautiful and finished to the highest specification with great attention to detail. The cottage was very spacious and had a beautiful outside area which was both private but provided breathtaking views
The pool area was exquisite and immaculately maintained with a wonderful view and spacious seating area
The owners were wonderful and extremely welcoming and helpful
The olive oil was delicious too !!
We have been to Tuscany on five previous occasions and this has been the best property we have rented
We would fully recommend this special property and look forward to returning
Thank you so much
