This part of town seems to cater to Interstate travelers so I was pleased to check in to the Baymont and find it to not be just another "budget" hotel. It is a fairly new property, rooms are clean and attractive, lobby and breakfast room have a modern-yet-comfortable feel. The price (mid $80s) seemed like an especially good value for Michigan.
May not be their problem but checked in at 6 PM came back at 8 PM power was out, Had now idea when power would be back. Waited until 10 PM. Checked out with clerk to go to another hotel. Still got charged for room. Will contest the charge.
The room was very good; clean, comfortable and large & roomy. It was well kept with no noticeable issues. We felt as though we could just enjoy our time in the room. We do recommend staying here.
The hotel is right off the expressway though we felt like we were way out in the country being surrounding by dense groves of trees on all sides and no outside noise noticeable in our room. The location is good to get to downtown if you desire. There was a Bob Evans and McDs within walking distance as well as a Meijer gas station.
Facilities at the hotel were good for workouts with the standard equipment and a good swimming pool.
A couple of facility observations included one very slow elevator and a small breakfast area. Most of us used the stairs multiple times due to the elevator being extremely slow and not because of being busy, just speed to arrive.
The relatively small breakfast area had poor traffic flow for people to move around though to be fair it was very busy both days we were there. Tables were too close to the food counters and a single garbage can between the two counters was for everyone's use adding to the congestion. While the size of the room is difficult to change, better placement of more popular items and more than one garbage can in more accessible areas might help.
But outside of those two considerations, we will be staying here again when in the area because of the staff, room quality and amenities. This is a great hotel and good value in the northwest area of Grand Rapids.
