Cherbridge Cottages
Reviewed September 14, 2012

We are from the United States and stayed at Riverside Lodge for a week in June 2012. The cottage was lovely and had everything one could ask for and more. The grounds were beautiful as well. The beds were extremely comfortable, the bathrooms were luxurious and the appliances were top notch. Laura was extremely helpful with making the rental arrangements and answering any questions we had before arriving at Cherbridge Cottages. Once we arrived, her father, Barry, went above and beyond the "call of duty" in helping us. He was always available for anything we needed and so enjoyable to have a chat with! Our family loved our stay here!

We stayed two weeks with our two young children (8 and 6) and my parents. The lodge was lovely, spacious and offered everything we needed. Location was also great - close to Oxford and well placed for traveling many sites nearby.

The separate washer/dryer was helpful as we had a lot of laundry and many places have only the combination washer/dryers which do not generally dry well. The grounds were also beautiful and the kids had lots of space to run and play - they really enjoyed feeding the local peacocks and ducks!

There were many personal touches which were valued by us and our hosts Barry and Lynn really went the extra mile to help us with whatever we might need - e.g. booking taxis, driving directions, places to visit, etc. My father needed to see a doctor at one point and Barry quickly arranged this for us on short notice on a Friday afternoon.

I would gladly recommend Cherbridge Cottages to all, especially families with young children and or needing disabled access.

Five Stars; Beautiful accomodations, fantastic stay. Hosts Laura, Graeme and Harry simply wonderful. Attentive, friendly and fun. Perfect for families, couples or singles. Quiet, peaceful yet only a few minutes from Oxford Center. We used the place as a base of operations for excursions to The Cotswolds, Blenheim Palace etc. I would stay here again and again. Book a reservation now or you might miss something truly unforgetable. Many thanks to the family Colman-Stewart for making us feel at home.

We rented a cottage for a few weeks. Used it as a base for travel in southern England while our student attended one of the Oxford colleges.

Geographically this property sits on the Cherwell river adjacent to the A40 and just outside the highway system that rings the town of Oxford. Oxford can best be described as an academic village as it is actually rather small and surrounded by farms and country. Cherbridge cottages are part of a large horse farm. There are six cottages, all similar. The cottages are log construction and might fit right in say the Rockies. There is a patio that wraps around two sides and some grass and hedges separating the cottages. The inside is pure luxury. The materials in construction were obvious to me as top notch. Bosch appliances, gormet knife set, hidden refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, dryer and washer, even silent closure magnetic drawers. The bathrooms were glass and chrome with stone tiling, recessed lighting throughout, large LCD TV with DVD player, heated floors, nice bedding and armoirs. We had one master bedroom, a two bedded room and a one bedded room, two full baths. There is a kitchen combined with a living and dining room. Very spacious. Lots of double pained windows throughout. Really felt like we were home.

As mentioned, there is a river than runs through the property just steps away with lots of ducks, swans, and a few peacocks. Very picturesque and pleasant but the muddy river is probably not suitable to swim. Might be worthy of fishing or punting but I did neither.

Those that desire to visit to Oxford might think twice about actually staying in town if they wish to travel beyond Oxford and/or have a car. We have been to this city twice before and had a very good understanding of the parking problems there. Furthermore, it is crowded until the wee hours of the morning and one must drive with an eye on bicyclists, and lots of pedestrians. There are also lots of road restrictions at various parts of the day (some areas restricted to taxis and buses). Using Tripadvisor, and other tools, we had choosen a few in-town properties before settling on Cherbridge. Once in Oxford I took a closer look at the other properties and all were a bit deceptive in their description of parking. If you are lucky enough to get parking in town you might not find it again upon returning from a days adventure. Also, for a little town it does get very crowded and noisy (I have not heard so many ambulance even in Los Angeles).

I noted a few reviewers commenting on the highway and means to get to Oxford. The A40 is a 70MPH road that is busy all day but amazingly goes dead around midnite. Getting in and out is a bit like operating a rocket sled but that did not bother me at all. I do not really believe there is a safe way to walk from the property and across the highway. So you really do need a car if you are going to stay there. The positives, however, are many and also include the A40 which is your direct route to all points on the compass. In regard to the parking situation in Oxford; what we did was what the locals do. We drove to the Pear Tree Park & Ride (there are about five other locations as well) and parked the car for 1.50 GBP. Then took one of the very frequent double deck buses to the center of town (round trip for two is about 5.40 GBP). This actually worked out very well. In fact, the bus stop downtown is right in front of Tesco where you can shop and bring the groceries right onboard the bus.

Without any hesitation I would very much recommend this property. The Coleman family that own this property take personal care of it. The cottage was spotless. When we had a problem (e.g., burned out bulb) Don was very quick to come out to fix the problems. Should I ever have occassion to spend another extended visit in Oxford I will go right back to Cherbridge.

We held a very civilised hen party here for a weekend and could not have been more pleased. The lodges are fitted out to a really high standard and the open plan living area made for a really sociable time. Barry was fabulous making us feel so welcome, even lighting a BBQ for us and helping with organising taxis for 10 excitable women! The welcome pack was appreciated. We are planning a return visit later on in the year and would defintely recommend for groups or for families

We stayed in one of the lodges for a girls weekend away last year and had a fantastic time. The owners are really friendly and gave us a warm welcome including some unexpected food supplies in the kitchen and a bottle of wine. The quality of the lodges and the setting are great. The location is next to a dual cariage way but you cannot hear it so would have no idea. It is a quick drive into Oxford which is a great place to visit. We are returning again this year.
