Stayed recently for weekend, staff really helpful & welcoming. Beautiful building & setting but the food in restaurant very average to poor. Souffle came out with burnt ramekin & souffle all flat & soggy, pasta was undercooked had to send both dishes back to kitchen. Waitress offered a complimentary cheese plate for dessert which we accepted. Main courses were only average. Breakfast Bircher Muesli was not the real thing with grated apple, just regular muesli with yogurt. We appreciated the antipasti plate provided for our late arrival but thought the $56 charge was a bit on the steep side! Still, a lovely place to stay but you need a car to access.

Dear Peter J,

Thank you for taking the time to write your review and for your constructive comments. I have passed your comments on the food to the chef and thanks to our staff noting your points, we have been able to discuss and look at ways of rectifying these with our kitchen staff. I am pleased the staff were able to offer you alternatives as some compensation at the time.

Thanks for your lovely comment in our guest book praising the staff and our hotel and as stated in your review, it is indeed good to have a vehicle when staying at Villa Howden. I am very pleased that we were able to organise a hire car for you on Saturday to be delivered to the hotel for your convenience. We trust you enjoyed MONA, but above all, we hope you had a wonderful birthday.

Kind Regards
Brian Walsh

No complaints. The service, the food, the accommodation, the facilities and the position were all excellent. Absolutely no complaints other than a small problem with internet connection in the room however it was available in the library. 15 minutes out of town on the waterfront. Restaurant menu was excellent. The chocolate desert was not very chocolaty but I did not need it anyway. If I return to Hobart, I would not bother looking elsewhere.

Room Tip: I do not think any room would be better than another. We were very happy with our water views and little balcony.

Dear Deb B,

It is very nice to read your positive review and the good comments on the service, food, accommodation and the property in general. And we have also checked all the wireless relays for the internet and adjusted where necessary. Personally, I am not too tech-savvy and I trust this has fixed any issues.

Hopefully you will return to Hobart and we would love to have you stay with us again.

Kind Regards

From the moment we arrived we were warmly welcomed by the staff with champagne on arrival and a quick tour of the lovely common areas. The restaurant, lounge room and music room are beautifully decorated and are great spots to relax by the fire, play a board game and just soak in the surroundings. We brought our own food that we'd purchased at the Salamanca Markets and the staff happily provided us with a platter and other crockery so we could enjoy the food in our room. We only stayed one night, but the atmosphere was so great that we felt really relaxed and almost like we'd stayed there longer. I'd thoroughly recommend this place for couples or even for a girls weekend away.

Villa Howden is one of Tasmania's best kept secrets. My fiance and I recently spent the weekend at the Villa and it is just perfect for a weekend away or short break. The food was some of the best we have had in Tasmania, incredible local ingredients and delicious wines to match. Some very amazing flavours. The indoor pool is like something out of a European fairytale and even in winter it was heated to a very comfortable 29 degrees. Set right on the river, the grounds of the property are very pretty - but the best thing about the weekend was easily the service. It was like staying with best friends. We didn't want to leave and can't wait to return.

We had a lovely weekend stay and a wonderful dinner with a group of friends in the restaurant. There is a great room with an open fireplace for pre-dinner drinks and then after dinner there are comfortable lounges and chairs to relax in. Breakfast was good and the coffee was definitely drinkable. The rooms are very thoughtfully put together. It was stormy cold weather when we stayed and it was nice to be in a really warm hotel with plenty of spaces to spend time in - a true winter retreat. The location is perfect - close to town and local beaches and at the gateway to the southern tourist route. The hotel offers a quiet environment. The indoor swimming pool was warm enough in freezing weather, and very clean and spacious. The staff were all excellent - polite and professional with lots of smiles. This is a 5 star experience that is delivered with care and thoughtfulness.

Room Tip: The water view suite was gorgeous.
