We stayed at Rockliffe Hall hotel and as the Orangie was closed that evening we ate at the Clubhouse,The food was excellent, really good value for money with 2 courses for £19.50 and three courses for £25.
The service and quality of food was excellent.

We thought we would have Christmas Day lunch out this year and were told by neighbours how good Rockcliffe Hall is so tried to book. The Brasserie was full by September but the Clubhouse still had tables free so we booked this, paid the deposit then the balance. The total for two people was £170 without wine.

The Clubhouse is away from the Hall and has pleasant views overlooking the golf course. To enter the function room you go past the golf shop and the bar area. Little effort was made to make the entrance look seasonal and inviting but a complimentary glass of Prosecco or orange juice makes up for this a little.

The large dining room was elegantly furnished and had been given Christmas touches. We had a visit from beautifully dressed Santa and Mrs Claus with gifts for the youngsters. The waitresses were young and pleasant and things started well. Our table had no salt and pepper so whoever had checked the tables had missed this. The butternut squash veloute and ham and game terrine were nice and drinks were brought to us as soon as we asked for them though I tried twice to get a jug of water which I did eventually get. Main courses were excellent - medium rare roast beef with the trimmings and so many vegetables we left most of them. The portions were very generous.

Desserts were brought - fruity, light, Christmas pudding for me and chocolate tart for my husband which we enjoyed. Then things started to go wrong.

The cheese course was brought and the tea/coffee at the same time. We felt at this stage that we were being rushed. Have the tea at this restaurant if you like it as you get a teapot full whereas the coffee is one cup only. A bit mean at these prices. Our cheese course plates weren't cleared away as we drank the tea/coffee and waited for 'treats' as promised on the menu; these never materialised. Our waitresses had disappeared after bringing the cheese and nobody came near us from then on. We might have wanted port, brandy or liqueurs but were unable to attract anyone's attention.

This left us feeling disappointed and we felt that the service let them down. Would we try Rockcliffe Hall itself? Yes probably but not the Clubhouse again.

Visited 15th December for lunch and the staff were attentive and friendly. We ate from the all day menu - all of us having some form of sandwich ranging from croque Monsieur to grilled goats cheese focaccia. Lovely sized portion served with kettle crisps and salad. We also visited a month ago for tea with family and again, none of us could fault the food or service. We'll be back again soon. The room is beautifully decorated with views over the golf course. Highly recommended

My visit to The Clubhouse Restaurant was a surprise birthday treat by my husband. I have visited the spa & eaten at Rockliffe Hall in the past, both excellent.

The Clubhouse restaurant is attached to the golf club bar & looks out on to the golf course. As a disabled person I found the parking difficult as the car park is around 100m from the door (yes you can get dropped off at the door but not if you are a disabled driver!)

I Sunday Lunch Menu had a really good choice & the staff attentive. However, the bowl of vegetables let down the meal as they looked as if they had been boiled & emptied straight from the pan (no arrangement or dressing) with the broccoli 'on the turn'. Food, apart from the veg, was good.

Coffee seemed expensive at £3 & no chocolate/biscuit!

Well, when the husband said were of to Rockliffe with some friends for dinner i immediately thought crikey what do i wear? so after two changes we finally arrived at the clubhouse, yes the least posh bit round the back. When I say the least posh it does go without saying it's still glam but comfortable. The staff were without exception friendly and polite. The menu is comfortable short. i.e. your not lambasted with ridiculously long explanation of how they fry their chips, which, by the way were huge. I had the hodgsons hot smoked salmon starter, well it just melted in the mouth. Then followed by Daube of Beef. Now if you looked up the term "daube" it would say "stew". This was not stew it was the most succulent piece of beef slow cooked in a rich wine gravy. It was a very large portion "husband helped out at the end" sat alongside some lovely soft mashed potatoes. A classic and I will have it again. Husband had tempura of prawn with chilli dipping sauce followed by a steak and the mammoth chips. He is a pudding man but was nearly unmanned by the chocolate torte. When he says it was rich then trust me it will have been. The wine list was well balanced which on this occasion I only had a glass of the Merlot, lovely. Husband happily sat with a couple of black sheep, he was right at home. As it was a Friday night we had the added bonus of a rather fabulous singer guitarist called Val Boyers, she is on Facebook. One of our party bought her CD on the night. She was talented with a lovely voice that we all very happily listened to all evening. So in essence, a warm comfortable evening with very filling tasty food and a lovely ambience that didn't overwhelm you. There were a lot of families out for special birthdays and we had a couple of "happy Birthdays" ringing out. We left happy and full and will be returning. Thanks to all the staff
