“Great Afternoon Tea”
Reviewed March 1, 2014

The afternoon tea is a great experience. Traditional sandwiches, scones and cakes..
Very good value. Lots of calories!! Well worth a visit. Nice quiet and relaxing atmosphere. Go for it. Highly recommended.

Stayed for one night, whilst passing through area. Impressive entrance and check-in was very quick. Booked an "executive" room and was given No.8 on first floor. VERY large room with dressing area and also a big bathroom (no separate shower, but a hand-held one over the bath was very adequate). Comfortable, king bed and very pleasant room.

Staff were very attentive and pleasant and the food in the restaurant was superb and not too pricey. Breakfast the next day was also very good and tasty.

A great find and one which I will definitely stay at again, when in the area.

We visited the Croft Spa on Sunday 16 Feb for lunch & have visited on previous occasions since it had been renovated.
The first visit to the restaurant was spot on, then it just went down hill.
However, this time, the dining area looked clean & cared for, fresh flowers on tables, staff very friendly & great team service throughout.
A nice welcome as we walked in, normally no staff to be seen, great to see they have upped their game.
Crusty bread offered while we chose from the menu. Nice touch.
The Sunday lunch was tasty & the roast beef was the best I have ever tasted.
Still a pity the vegetables are served in one bowl, so when you take a portion, the carrot & swede mash just sticks to all the other vegetables in the bowl. It was much better the first visit, where the vegetables were served in individual bowls.
Good cheese board.
The menu is changed a little every week, so you don't get bored of the same things, please bring back the tortellini, my husband raved about it the first time we visited.
All in all, a good visit, keep it up.

Room Tip: This review is based on the Sunday restaurant meals.

We recently used the Croft Hotel for a family wedding staying over for two nights. The staff were very friendly and helpful all weekend and during the lead up to the wedding. Nothing was a problem to the Staff.

The rooms were large, clean and very comfortable for all our wedding party.

A large group of wedding guests used the restaurant for a meal on the Friday evening, where the food was first class and the service excellent.

Breakfast each morning comprised of various cereals, fruit juices, fruit, tea, coffee, croissants and a cooked English Breakfast was available. Even though the hotel was fully booked, there were no delays with our food orders.

The wedding ceremony was in held in a superb room which was perfect for a wedding.
The only comment we would make is that there is no microphone facility for wedding speeches, which left a lot of people straining to hear what was said.

All in all we found the Croft to be an excellent venue and we would thoroughly recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: Don't be put off by adverse comments on this hotel. Try it for yourself and you will be pleasant...

Booked on booking.com for what was supposed to be a Executive Room I checked in to be put on the top floor, the window didn't open, the shower had red mould all around the edges and worst of all I awoke to no hot water. I was late for my meeting and plumped for a cold shower. I complained at checkout which was run by a young girl who only after I complained a few times offered an apology. I asked for someone to call me and 2 days on no phone call. Clearly no one cares...... Other issues bar was under staffed had to wait on every occasion to be served as the bar staff were off serving in the restaurant. At Breakfast whilst the cooked option was fresh the cold options were poor. The muesli bowl was empty no one had bothered to fill it up and the toast was reheated so very brittle. Overall I would stay somewhere else not worth the money paid

Visited the Croft for a wedding staying over on Friday & Saturday Night.

Good quick check-in.

We'd asked for a room with a 3rd bed and were given a massive room with a hugh bed and a 3rd bed. Nice & clean as well.

Went into the restaurant for a meal with other quests staying over for the wedding (about 25 of us). The service was excellent and the food quality & quantity were also very good.

Drinks prices were also quite reasonable for hotel prices. The staff were very friendly and helpful all weekend.

The reception, bar and restaurant area has clealy been decorated and it is modern whilst still holding onto some of the original features (for instance the wooden ceiling beams).

Breakfast on both mornings was also very good with various cereals, fruit juices, fruit, tea, coffee and also croissants. You could also choose cooked items from a menu and again the quality was good.

The hotel is on one side of a bridge that crosse the river Tees and it is a really nice setting.

Then onto the wedding itself. The ceremony was in a grand room which has recently been renovated/decorated and was just perfect.

Drinks & Canapes were then served in the bar area whilst the room was set up for the wedding breakfast (approx 70 people). The food quality & quantity was again excellent (& hot) and the service just as good. The kids were also taken care of with garlic bread, chicken goujons/chips & ice cream!

For the evening do a partition was opened which doubled the size of the room and included the dance floor and another bar. The buffet was good and contained a nice mix of hot & cold food.

All in all an excellent venue for a wedding or just a night or 2 away and I would thoroughly recommend.

Stayed for New Year celebraitions, not the best venue ive done in the last few years. The food was okay but nothing special, staff were brilliant and worked there socks off I agree about the beer pretty poor, the rooms were spacious everything worked but the bed was the worst ive ever slept in.The evening festivities seemed to be missing something poor music choice from the DJ could account for a lot of it.Breakfast in the morning some of our friends waited 40 mins for food when people who came in after them were served. Overall not the best.
