I spent 4 weeks at the Kolping House in spring 2013 doing research in Hoima. The overall atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, rooms are spacious and clean, with well-working hot showers. Sitting in the garden under a canopy reading the newspaper is a very fond memory I have.
I contacted the Kolping some time ahead of my trip via e-mail, and the answers always came immediately. Staff and management were very helpful and went out of their way to answer my questions and help me unravel the mysteries of daily life. They also helped me organize my subsequent trip to Kampala and stay in the Kolping Kampala.
Breakfast and dinner was delicious (at dinner I usually had the African buffet but you can also order à la carte). Yes, in the week ends the night club on Butiaba Road can be noisy but on the other side I really liked staying in the room nearest to the street as I really liked the atmosphere of privacy it offered. (If you are very noise-sensitive you might bring some earplugs just in case.)
