We arrived to a warm welcome from Mel, the owner with her husband Mark, who live next door. The welcome food hamper was great, and meant we could settle in nicely without going to get food straightaway. This included eggs from their own hens, which was lovely and we bought some more from them too - cheaper and better than the markets and supermarkets.
The accommodation is nicely appointed, with two good bedrooms upstairs, the bathroom downstairs with the living area and kitchen. To note though, there isn't a washing machine, but you can hand wash and there's a rotary dryer outside.
The garden is lovely and self contained, which was good for our little girl, and there's two friendly Weimaraners to play with too.
We went in early March and had good weather but it did get cool overnight, but the log burner and room heaters did a good job of keeping us warm.
It has UK, French and German tv channels, wifi for a couple if hours a day, and lots of books, games and DVDs to keep you amused.
Overall, we had a lovely stay and would recommend it.
Places we visited:
1. Mont St Michel - quite impressive from afar, not so much up close.
2. Caen - really quite nice, lots of good shops, a castle and an excellent Sunday market.
3. Arromanches - impressive Mulberry harbour remnants.
4. Bayeux - really impressive place with some quirky shops and cafes, as well as the tapestry and cathedral - both of which are worth visiting.
5. La Haye du Puits - pretty and surprisingly large number of shops. There's two Depots Vente, both of which have some interesting furniture and curios, if you have space in your car to take home.
6. Coutances - pretty town with a large cathedral and a nice jardin botanique with a nice play area for kids.
7. Villedieu les Poeles - pretty little town, with a zoo nearby, and famous for copper work. There's a little pottery in the town, and we had a good lunch at Le Pussoir.
8. Honfleur - exceptionally pretty harbour town, with attractive galleries, market, wooden church and timbered buildings.
9. Barfleur - cute little fishing village.
There's loads to see - we didn't do much more than scratch the surface so well, well, worth visiting the area.

The gite has everything we needed for a cosy winter holiday exploring the beaches and countryside of Normandy. The owners are very kind and helpful with a great deal of local knowledge and advise.
We loved the wood burning stove, beautifully equipped kitchen and big generous welcome pack.
We hope to repeat our visit next year.

La Bucaille is a very well furnished comfortable gite. It's more like a home than a holiday let. It is well maintained and very clean. The Sky TV and WiFi are really useful and the welcome basket is very generous and includes wine, water, bread, cheese, eggs from the owner's own hens, butter and cheese! A very relaxing place to stay and yet only 5 minutes from La Haye day Puits where there are all amenities. Dogs are made very welcome and even have their own treats! The enclosed garden and quiet local beaches are great for dogs.Would definitely recommend.
We have over the last 45 years stayed in cottages and gites in England and France this one without doubt is the best. We were lucky enough to find this gem of a caravan site 3 years back when we came over for the DDay landing celebrations, we said then we would be back. The gite is absolutely superb with everything you could wish for (three omnibus editions of James Herriot) warm, comfortable and spotlessly clean.Mark and Mel are super hosts with a welcome as warm as the summer sun. We will be back next year but with the 'van this time. As my one sentence review states it is "Simply the BEST"
