Jane is a wonderful hostess who provides mouth watering dishes. This restaurant was the best compared to any others in the region.
Very pretty location. Relaxed atmosphere.

We have been meaning to try this small intimate restaurant for ages but only recently had the opportunity. The restaurant is situated in the small quaint village of Poilhes (don’t even try and pronounce it!). The village is charming and it is lovely to have a stroll along the banks of the Canal du Midi, which passes through the centre of the village, before you eat. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed and Jane, the owner and chef, welcomed us. There was a nice selection of dishes on the €23.50 menu (3 courses, very good value). The cuisine is from the ‘good honest home cooked food’ school; with fresh local produce being used and proportions are generous. We had a lovely evening and intend to come back and try lunch outside on the shaded terrace.

Dining under the plane trees in the middle of a small Languedoc village in the height of summer is a real pleasure. There are a couple of tables inside but stay in the fresh air. The menu is short and simple; the food is well prepared and the price is reasonable. It falls short of being truly excellent but if you are holidaying on the Canal du Midi it is worth a visit. Do apply mosquito spray, however! The wine list is similarly limited but decent value. Friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Obviously closed in the off-season.

Do try this lovely intimate restauarant if you are in the vicinity. Located in the small village of Poilhes in the Languedoc area of France right by the canal du Midi in the shade of the plane trees.
The 23.50 Euro menu (for 3 courses) gives you a choice of 5 or 6 dishes for each course. We had 2 visits during our holiday.
As starters we sampled the smoked mackerel salad and poached pear with roquefort cheese. Both were excellent-nice & light but plenty of flavours. Mains- we tried the salmon with a ginger sauce (brilliantly cooked, the sauce with just a hint of ginger); pork loin with a sage sauce( tender, tasty) and the duck breast also delicious. They were accompanied by very tasty vegetables simply cooked. Puds-we plumped for the panacotta with on the first occasion a rhubarb compote & on the 2nd visit with an apricot compote.
Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our meals on both occasions and felt they were excellent value for money. The young waitress was delighful and the English chef/owner is a lovely genuine person. The restaurant is located in the small square in the centre of the village & it is lovely to watch the world go by.
Would love to return.
