“ZETLAND HUNT STAYOVER”
Reviewed March 10, 2013

Stayed over at the George last night (09th Mar 2013). Arrived late, but got fabulous reception from Stacey and Carl. Had a wonderful time. Lovely place and excellent value for money. Had a hearty breakfast served by Sean this morning. Will be back.

Booked into The George on Monday 25th Feb. We were so impressed with the reception, general decor and our accommodation that within 10 minutes we booked to stay a second night! Excellent food the piece de resistance being the "Taste of chocolate "plate - it would match any pudding we have seen on TV's Great British Menu.

Just back from a lovely stay at The George. We were travelling up to the North-East and this seemed the perfect base. Reviews were good and we were not dissapointed. A beautiful (standard) room awaited us with superb views of the river. The food in the restaurant was of an excellent standard, beautifully presented and very good value. Staff were very friendly and helpful. All in all a very relaxing weekend and we will definitely return.

Just spent a night at the George. Booked a superior room and it was totally worth it. Arrived very late at night to find the staff ready, friendly and waiting for us. Room was lovely and the bathroom was huge - what a bath! Breakfast was delicious and you got the feeling you could have stayed and read the Sunday papers they'd provided for as long as you wanted. Cosy, relaxed atmosphere.

Stopped for lunch - frequented this about 5 years ago. What a disappointment - the food took 1 hour - 1 gammon with 6 chips - 1. Croque Monsieur, 1 cheese and chutney - deserts were very poor - bread and butter pudding just that - no sultanas or fruit and a very small portion on a very large white plate looked as lost as it tasted. Chocolate tart was at best on a par with tesco's or Iceland and possibly could have been theirs. £45.00 should have given to comic relief!

Thank you for your feedback and I sincerely apologise if you did not fully enjoy your lunch experience. All our menu items are cooked fresh to order so we do allow for 30 minutes waiting time during busy periods. Please be assured that all our desserts are homemade by our team of talented chefs and indeed we have just won the prestigious March 2013 Le Routiers menu award for our Chocolate dessert.

I stay once a week at The George and have done for some years now. It is welcoming, cozy with roaring fires in the winter, lovely breakfasts although they need to perceft their scrambled eggs! The staff team a friendly and very helpful, the rooms are quiet and pretty, and there are great gardens and views overlooking the river and countryside in some rooms. In my experinec it's great for business, couples, family, friends and solo.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms with a view of the river.
